  • With the greenlight for the series to go darker, the plots have become more intense and CGI work has proven better.

    8.0
As the series moves into season 2, the creators were given the greenlight to get into a more darker atmosphere. During their small off season, they improved animations and character designs.

This episode has it's intense and fast paced moments, but also does a good job at playing mind games, especially from the villain, Bane. Anakin and Ashoka really have to defeat his mind games to stay on top of the ball game. They can not afford to lose in this episode.

The improved animation is evident in this episode, and if you are a Star Wars fan, you will either see this series as something you despise, or something you can delve deeper into in the Star Wars universe.moreless
  • Anakin and Ahsoka track Cad Bane down to Devaron, where the bounty hunter has taken a Jedi prisoner in order to open his stolen holocron. As the Jedi board to get the holocron back, Bane hatches his own sinister plan.moreless

    8.0
The second part of the two-part premiere gave a higher amount of action and thrill than the first episode, not to mention a few less logic defying choices as far as the story goes. It's a more straightforward story than the first episode and a bit simpler, which I think actually helped it play to its strength. Anakin and Ahsoka are together again, fighting beside Rex and his boys with Yularen shaking his head at the insanity of it all. It's similar to some of the season 1 formula, but at a larger scale as the production team gets more experienced and more resources to draw on.

We get the return of battle droid humor, which really isn't that grating, while at the same time getting a somewhat effective use of the droids when Bane gets a large number to take on Anakin and his small number of troops. The zero gravity scene may be the highlight of the episode action-wise, as we see our heroes adapt to it and Bane try to turn things to his advantage. It's cool to see. The other major part of the episode is the climax, as Ahsoka disobeys orders (again, much like last ep) to go after Bane only to get overmatched by the hunter's deception. And that leads to Anakin presenting one of his major flaws, his attachments to others and willingness to sacrifice the many to save the few. Or the one. After a very positive, heroic portrayal through much of the first season, it's good to get the little hints such as here that we know will one day lead Anakin to his fall. A tense escape from the exploding ship wraps up a very entertaining episode.moreless
  • Cad Bane has stolen the holocron and captured Bolla Ropal and he intergoates him into opening the holocron which fails. Anakin and Ashoka are out to try and stop Bane and get the holocron back, but will this work to Bane's advantage.moreless

    9.5
In my opinion this is one of the best episodes of both seasons because it has everything you want in a star wars show, its action packed, has lots of humour, it has a great storyline plot and much mystery and shock at what happens in this episode. Cad Bane is the best villain so far in the clone wars series, he's malevolent and he will stop at no ends just to get his money which is why his task is always completed. Also this episode tells me how the jedi are in jeopardy which is great to know because I think last season there were too many times when the jedi won easily and that's not right.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Ahsoka called Cad Bane "slimo" while she was held captive by the bounty hunter. "Slimo" is huttese for "slime ball." Anakin uses this term in reference to Sebulba the Dug in the podrace scene of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Zam Weesel also calls Jango Fett "slimo" seconds prior to her death in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

    • Trooper Denal was last seen in the Season One episode, "Downfall of a Droid".

    • Goof:
Rex orders Execute Battalion to board "ATAT300," but the proper designation for the Clone Wars-era walker is an AT-TE. The other walker identified by number is 773.

    • Newsreel:
Stolen secrets! Villainous mercenary Cad Bane was hired by Darth Sidious to steal a holocron from the vaults of the Jedi Temple. After fleeing the scene of the crime, Bane hunted down and captured Master Bolla Ropal, who has a crystal which holds secrets of the Jedi Order. As a Separatist fleet arrives to help the bounty hunter, Anakin Skywalker races in to cut off their escape and stop Bane from delivering the stolen holocron.

Jedi Fortune Cookie: "Overconfidence is the most dangerous form of carelessness."

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Ahsoka Tano: Enjoy this while you can, slimo! This burning boat is about to finish us both off!
Cad Bane: Oh, we have time. The bond between a Jedi Master and his apprentice is strong!
Ahsoka Tano: Which means my master will be coming for me any minute!

    • Admiral Yularen: So, the mission was your usual version of success, then?
Anakin Skywalker: If by success you mean I won, then yes.

    • Cad Bane: (To Anakin Skywalker) If I activate this control, the outside airlock will open and she will be sucked into oblivion. Do you think you can kill me and then save her before she's pulled out into space? It's a horrible way to die.

    • Admiral Yularen: Of all the Jedi, why did I have to end up with Skywalker?

    • Battle Droid #1: We're defending the bridge alone? Against the Jedi? I hate this job.

    • Nute Gunray: (To Cad Bane) You'd better live through this. I want my money!

  • NOTES (4)

    • International Air Dates:
United Kingdom- October 31, 2009 on Sky Premiere

    • The original airing of this episode received 2.581 million viewers.

    • Long time fans will find something familiar in the term "Kyber memory crystal." In early drafts of the original script to A New Hope, the Kyber crystal was a Force-focusing artifact wanted by the Jedi and the Sith. This was eventually written out of the story in subsequent drafts, and a variation of the artifact -- spelled as the Kaiburr crystal -- made its way into the 1978 novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye. During the script development of Episode II, the term "Kyber" was nearly resurrected. The weapon that Jango Fett used to kill Zam Wesell was first identified as a Kamino kyber dart. This was changed to saber-dart in the finished movie. Finally, after over 30 years, the term "Kyber" with its original spelling has worked its way into a canon Star Wars story.

    • The script originally called for black-hued retail droid guards to haul Master Ropal's unconscious body.
