As a band-of-misfits / behind-enemy-lines story mash up, this one was lacking in both warmth and wit. I kept expecting to see Bill Murray's character from Stripes come stumbling into frame and drunkenly say something like I'll take it from here. This storyline has been done so many times for laughs and for drama that seeing this handful of droids roll through the motions simply didn't cut it here. It's been done and done better by: Andy's Toys; a clown fish and his pals; Sergeant Hulka's sad sack recruits; the Parr family of Incredible superheroes and not the least of all Wall-E and EVE and their misfit defective droid posse.
The episode did not help itself by borrowing so many plot elements from other shows and films including its own original franchise. If it was intended as a parody, it fell short of the target.
