  • Easily the standout episode of Season Two!

    9.5
We find Duchess Satine (the pacifist leader of Mandalore) being escorted to Coruscant by Anakin and Obi-Wan plus their clone troopers who are led by Captain Rex and Commander Cody.

It is revealed that Obi-Wan and Satine were very much close together in the past, around the time he was an apprentice to Qui-Gon. Anakin bears witness to all this talk and can't help but make jokes about the business. The Mandalorians want the Duchess dead, and have inserted assassin spider droids into the cargo of the ship, which are discovered by R2-D2 and some unfortunate clones. Rex has a close shave (but is saved, of course) leading to Anakin and his men dealing with the trouble below in the cargo hold, while up above Obi-Wan is tested by Satine.

The episode gets more tense as Satine barely escapes harm and is eventually held captive by a traitor (If you've seen the Season 2 trailer you'd know who this is), which leads to a glimpse of the evil of a certain character (As Obi-Wan says after the murder of the villian "Anakin?!?! Of course...").

There were some great moments like the Obi-Wan/Satine bond, the clone battles, the Anakin persona in this episode.

The animation and direction was brilliant, and for once the writing wasn't actually all that bad.

An incredible Nine and a half out of Ten.moreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Newsreel:
A royal welcome! Sent to investigate allegations that Mandalore was joining Count Dooku's Separatists, Obi-Wan Kenobi was reunited with an old friend, the Duchess Satine of Kalevala. While Satine claimed Mandalore's intentions were to remain neutral during the war, an attack on the capital city led Obi-Wan to the discovery of a terrorist organization known as Death Watch.

Now the Duchess travels to the Senate, so she can plead her case against her involvement in the war, as the Jedi prepare a defense against her opponents...

Jedi Fortune Cookie: "Fear not for the future, weep not for the past."

    • Greg Proops, who voices Tal Merrik, previously played the podrace announcer Fode in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

    • The Imperial March (also known as Vader's Theme) can be heard briefly playing right after Anakin stabs Tal Merrik.

    • The name of the Mandalorian Duchess and Obi-Wan's love interest Satine appears not to be chosen randomly. Satine was also the name of the character played by Nicole Kidman in Baz Luhrman's film "Moulin Rouge"(2001), where she is a beautiful courtesan who falls in love with a character played by Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars). As in Lurman's film, their relationship is burdened by unavoidable duties and the difference in their status.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Duchess Satine: (After Merrik shoots a man who begged to be sparred) Monster, you're a horrid monster!
Tal Merrik: Get used to it.

    • (Satine just escaped Merrik's custody with his blaster)
Tal Merrik: Interesting turnabout. But even if I do not deliver the Duchess to the Sepratists, I still win. The second I'm away, I'll simply trigger the explosives and blow the Coronet to bits.
Satine: (Pointing the blaster at Merrik) I will not allow that!
Tal Merrik: (Laughing) What are you going to do? If you shoot me, you brand yourself a hypocrite to every pacifist idea you hold dear. And you, Kenobi, you're no stranger to violence. You'd be hailed as a hero by everyone on the ship. Well, almost everyone.
(Obi-Wan looks at Satine, who is obviously torn by the situation)
Tal Merrik: Come on then. Who will strike first and brand themselves a cold-blooded killer?
(Anakin suddenly appears and stabs Merrik through the chest, killing him)
      Obi-Wan: (disappointed) Anakin...
Anakin: What? He was gonna blow up the ship.

    • Obi-Wan: (to Satine) If you'd asked me, I would have left the Jedi Order for you.
