  • hating all the night scenes hre too.

I really am hating all the dark scenes where the lighting is Crap, and you can't see what is maybe it's not worth seeing and that is why they hide small rant. The premise is cool, I like that much. I enjoy the ark scenes a bit more at the moment.
  • interesting fact about the wraith... or convenient plot whole being exploited ?

Interesting fact about the wraith... or convenient plot whole being exploited ?

What else is there ? :) The Jenai are back with a vengenance.

Seems like the wraith are more than just driven by hunger.

Why did shepard risk bringing the wraith to a planet with other wraith on it ?

Did the wraith learn/figure out that Atlantis is still there?

Other than that, rodney was funny, Talaya was SOOO silent and almost did'nt need to be there... Ronin was usual.. loud and voilent.

Elizabeth showed courage... Hopefully there will conclude soon... there's still the wraith, [A]Replicators AND now the Jenai dude to worry about...moreless
  • Too much common ground

This episode is at the same time awesome and awful.

The plot is good, although there are some boring parts, and it is odd that Elizabeth and Rodney are so passive; they could have thought of more to do, like trying to trick Kolys. The last ten minutes are fast-paced and have some surprising twists.

Then there are the recurring characters of Todd and Kolya who are doing great jobs in this series.

This episode marks a turning point in the general story line. Up to now the Wraith are horrible monsters and very different from Men. Here the writers decided to change this. From now on they are driven by very much the same instincts as Men. They are no longer different. That takes away a lot of their menace; in fact, the Wraith seemed pretty harmless to me in all the following episodes.

Giving them some 'Common Ground' was an excellent idea, but the writers gave them way too much of it.moreless
  • See Summary

We learned a lot in Common Ground, and perhaps just how much Common Ground there really is with not only the Genii, but the Wraith as well. The story unfolded in a natural and steady flow. It was interesting to see old enemies pop up again, as they always do in the Stargate Universe. The Genii are definiately taking on a big role in the series, and the Wraith seem to be fading to the background, as did the Goa'uld in SG1. Given what we learned about the Wraith in this episode I am sure they will continue to be an intricate part of the series, however the direction with them may be unexpected. A great episode with action and surprise!!!moreless
  • This was different, good not bad!

I always had a feeling there's more to the wraith than meets the eye. Usually when anything or anyone has the ability to take something it also has the ability to give it back. This is a whole new page regarding the wraith. While this is just me wishful thinking that someday, soon apparently a possible twisted alliance might be doable, or then again maybe not, it doesn't matter, it doesn't change the fact that the wraith are able to show honor and respect provided they receive the same treatment. It was obvious that a race so advanced were definitely not the mindless monsters they appear to be...looking forward to seeing more episodes on this idea in the future. Kickass episode worth every minute. Enjoy!!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (10)

    • McKay: What debt??!!! He looks younger than he did before!!

Sheppard spent 6 months on the other side of a time dilation field in the episode "Epiphany." This may be the writers attempt to make it up to him.

    • Ladon: Kolya believes I've taken his rightful place as leader of our people.

He is speaking of events just prior to, during, and immediately after the second season episode "Coup D'etat."

    • Sheppard: Kolya! I didn't kill you last time, remember? You promised me points for that.
      (and later)
McKay: Sheppard could have left you to rot down in that hole when we last met, Kolya.

These two lines refer to events in the first season episode "The Brotherhood."

    • Ronon: Who the hell is he?
Teyla: Acastus Kolya. A Genii military leader who once tried to seize Atlantis. Ladon was a member of his strike team.

This refers to events in the first season episodes "The Storm" and "The Eye."

    • Dr. Beckett explains that a large percentage of those that survive a partial feeding die anyway due to complications as a result of strain on the system. This brings up the question about the fate of Colonel Everett who was fed on in the episode "Siege (3)."

    • Kolya reveals that he was the one planning to overthrow Cowen as the leader of the Genii but Ladon exposed him and forced him into exile only to perform a Coup of his own ("Coup D'etat".)

    • The Wraith in this episode is later named Todd by Sheppard in the episode "Spoils of War."

    • Goof: The hole created in the cell wall by the Genii guard changes shape between the close up and long shots.

    • We learn that the Wraith can also return life force to their victims. As the Wraith prisoner says: "The gift of life is reserved only for our most devout worshipers and our brothers."

    • Goof: When the Atlantis security team disarms the Genii visitors, you can see a German team member quickly move from right to left. However, that person is wearing the German national flag upside down.

  • QUOTES (17)

    • Weir: What will we be up against?
Ladon: Nothing one of your cloaked jumpers and my good friend Ronon couldn't handle. I ask only that you leave Kolya for my own forces to find.
      Weir: No promises.

    • McKay: (after firing machine gun) I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I just reacted.
Teyla: (gun at ready) What is it?
McKay: Um… mouse? Really big one, though. More of a rat, really, possibly rabid…

    • Ladon: If you trade my life for Sheppard you will not only be yielding to blackmail, you will be planting the seeds of civil war.
Ronon: So what? I say we turn him over and let 'em fight it out.
      McKay: We can't do that!
      Ronon: Why not?
McKay: Well, because! (looks at Weir) Can we?

    • Guard: Move
Sheppard: Where are we moving to? (guard cocks big gun) I kinda like it here.
      Guard: Commander Kolya insists.
Sheppard: Oh, he insists. Why didn't you just say so?

    • Sheppard: You know, I could've sworn I was gonna wake up dead today.

    • Sheppard: Sounds like they're concentrating their search around the gate. They must think we knew where we were going.
      (Wraith chuckles.)

    • Sheppard: Why, are they going to let you go after I'm dead?
      Wraith: No.
Sheppard: Then what do you got to lose?
      Wraith: My life.
Sheppard: (sarcastically) Oh yeah, you've got a great one down here.

    • Sheppard: Kolya! I didn't kill you last time, remember? You promised me points for that. Kolya! Damn it. I should have killed him.

    • Sheppard: You have no idea where the Stargate is, do you?
Wraith: It was many years ago.
Sheppard: Way to go John. Listening to a Wraith.
Wraith: It was not my intention to deceive you Sheppard.
      (Over the radio)
Genii Soldier: Reinforcements have arrived at the Stargate, Commander.
Kolya: Kill the Wraith on sight, but I want Sheppard alive.
Sheppard: Well, we learned two things. One...he likes me better than you...
      (Wraith chuckles)
Sheppard: Two...we probably would've never made it to the Stargate anyway.
      Wraith: Then it is over.
Sheppard: No. Our people don't leave each other behind. That's three things you've learned.
      Wraith: You still believe that?
Sheppard: Kolya doesn't know where we are. He's wasting manpower. Could be he's searching for us or guarding the gate. The odds of my people finding us are going up and up.
Wraith: You are more like Wraith than you know.
Sheppard: I'm not sure I like the sound of that.
Wraith: There is much about Wraith that you do not know Sheppard.

    • Sheppard:How far is the Stargate?
      Wraith: It will be guarded.
      Sheppard: We got guns.
Wraith: They will be waiting for us.
Sheppard: Don't be so negative. You think you're gonna make it?
      Wraith: If I feed.
Sheppard: Well don't look at me.
(Both draw weapons at each other)
Sheppard: We make it to the Stargate, we both go our separate ways. Until then, we're gonna need each other. Deal?

    • Wraith: You're wasting your breath.
Sheppard: Didn't know I had company down here.
      Wraith: There is no escape.
Sheppard: Yeah, well, prisons are like that. Never stopped me before.

    • Wraith: The gift of life is reserved only for our most devout worshippers and our brothers. Sheppard gave me back my life. I merely repaid the debt.
McKay: What debt? Are you kidding me? I mean, he looks younger then he did before!

    • Kolya: The truth is, I would've settled for Doctor McKay, but I don't imagine I would enjoy his constant wailing

    • (A large contingent of marines are geared up and checking their weapons in the Gate room before beginning their first rescue attempt for Shepperd. Rodney paces along them like a commander.)
McKay: Alright, people, let's do this one by the numbers. We get in, we get our man, we get out. Stay sharp and stay alive.
(Standing behind the marines, Carson, Teyla and Ronon look at Rodney in confusion.)
Beckett: What are you on about?
McKay: Oh, just things that Sheppard would say, so I thought I would, um ...
Teyla: (with a look of both patience and exasperation) Well said, Rodney.
      Ronon: Just stay behind me.

    • Sheppard: Rodney, dial the damned Gate. Don't wait for us!
McKay: As if the bullets whizzing past my head weren't encouragement enough!

    • (While running away from an ambush at the start of the episode...)
Teyla: You must run faster, Rodney!
McKay: This is pretty much my top gear!

    • Wraith: (to Sheppard) You pace in your cell, cursing that I took years from you. I stand here cursing that I was not allowed them all. Each in our own way, we suffer.
