The show was canceled so it's the end of the series. But they promised us a movie that would air "later in 2009".

Only problem is: after all this time he's still a major?

You would think he'd get a promotion by now.

Which leaves only one conclusion: He's really, really bad at his job!
Maybe that's why the Pentagon is sending him to the Pegasus Galaxy ... Wraith bait...

I think it's more likely that he doesn't do anything worthy of a promotion to Lt. Colonel All he does is act as liason between SGC and the Pentagon. He's not out there risking his life or anything, so why should he get a promotion?

Major Bert Samuels (Robert Wisden) got a promotion to Lt. Colonel in the first season of SG1. But then again...he'll always be Sparky to us.

True, I wonder what the rank between Major and Lt. Col. is? I mean still 4 years later and he's still a major? I dunno.

He really should've been promoted to a Lieutenant Colonel by Continuum. He was introduced as Major Davis during the second season of SG-1.

2nd season! Even Carter was Major for like 4 years.
So Davis has been Major for like 10 years?

Yeah, about 10 years or so. Carter was still a captain when he was introduced, and she went up three ranks to a full colonel during that time. She was frontline during wartime, but I still think Davis should have been promoted as well.

I don't think there is a rank between Major and Lt. Col. I dunno...I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it, nor am I saying I don't want him to be promoted, but I doubt he ever will be

Understandable, and I agree with you guys, he hasn't been on the front lines and doesn't deserve to be an automatic Lt. Col., but damn Major for 10 years kinda sucks though. And unless they change it for the last episode it'll be a shame.

I wonder what happened to Col. Reynolds though? I kinda missed him too.

well, me thinks he shoulda been promoted cuz he wuzn't just a paper pusher - he did stuff like negotiate with the russians and the international committee (or pre-committee).

Getting promoted is more about your job then how well your doing, its more likely he never got promoted cause he was the liason between the SGC and the Pentagon, and that is probably a job they deemed for a major. He'd have had to take another position to get a potential promotion, and that means not doing something he obviously likes to do.

Colonel Reynolds was also a Major in season two, so he went up two levels.

The reason I think Major Davis should have been promoted is because in the U.S. Military, the average time spent as a Major is around 4-6 years. There's a general promotion schedule based on time in service and grade. And in Sci-Fi, characters are often promoted at a faster rate.
