As for discussion for the show, please be respectful to the other users and do not violated the TV.com Terms of Service (TOS) because flaming and spamming will not be tolerated. For episodes please direct all discussion to the official threads that are pinned for 6 weeks and please use a spoiler tag for spoilers of future episodes.

    For submissions please check the guide before submitting and some trivia and quotes may not be visible on the Overview page so please check the Trivia & Quotes tab. Also check the TV.com Help Center and TV.com Guidelines Center for submission guidelines. For Quotes please use the character name that is used on screen the most. With the Earth personnel most are referred to by their last name so use McKay instead of Rodney and do not use the rank or salutation. As for sources for submission please try to find a reputable fan-site or an interview with a member of the crew.

    Major/Lt. Colonel John Sheppard

    USAF Lt. Colonel John Sheppard is the commander of the military contingent on the Atlantis expedition and leader of the First Atlantis Reconnaissance Team. His first appearance was "Rising (1)." He is played by actor Joe Flanigan.

    Early Life:

    Sheppard was born into a wealthy family. His father, Patrick Sheppard, had plans for him to go to Harvard and take over the family business. After Sheppard joined the Air Force he had a falling out with his father and the business went to his brother Dave. He married Nancy, who worked for the Department of Homeland Security. Because of John's absence on missions they grew apart and later divorced. During his time in the Air Force he became an experienced pilot and flew helicopters on every continent on Earth including an AH-1 Cobra, AH-64 Apache, OH-58 Kiowa, UH-60 Blackhawk and CV-22 Osprey. During his time in Afghanistan he disobeyed a direct order and reentered a combat zone to rescue a fellow downed pilot. During his attempt he is shot down and must evac Captain Holland on foot but is unsuccessful. Because of this he removed from combat and stationed at McMurdo Air Force Base in Antarctica.

    Atlantis Expedition:

    While at McMurdo he was assigned to fly Brigadier General Jack O'Neill to the Ancient outpost nearby, and successfully evaded a rogue drone weapon that had accidentally been launched by Carson Beckett and targeted his helicopter. After arriving at the outpost Sheppard is given security clearance and learns of the Stargate program and the Ancients. Dr. Beckett discovers that he not only had the ATA gene, but that he was naturally proficient at using it. Because of this Dr. Weir requests that he join the expedition despite his record and O'Neill reluctantly agrees, much to the chagrin of Colonel Marshall Sumner.

    After traveling to Atlantis, Sheppard joins Sumner on a mission to Athos where they meet Teyla Emmagan, the leader of the Athosians. While exploring the planet, Sumner, Teyla, and several others are captured by the Wraith. Sheppard returns to Atlantis and assembles a team in a Puddle Jumper to rescue the hostages. Sheppard and Lt. Ford enter a Wraith facility and find the prisoners minus Sumner, who is being interrogated by the Wraith Keeper. Sheppard goes to rescue him but Sumner has already been feed upon. He shoots the Keeper through the hand, breaking the connection and killing Sumner to spare him the agony. Sheppard is captured but before he is interrogated Lt. Ford shows up and they kill the Keeper awakening the sleeping Wraith. After returning to Atlantis Sheppard assumes command of the Atlantis Military contingent.

    Dr. Elizabeth Weir

    Dr. Elizabeth Weir is an American diplomat and the original leader of the Atlantis expedition. Her first appearance was "Rising (1)." She is played by actress Torri Higginson.

    Early Life:

    Weir was very close to her father who died several years before she joined the Stargate program. He left her his favorite pocket watch, which she took with her to Atlantis. She has two Ph.D.s and taught Political Science at Georgetown University. She speaks five languages including having a firm grasp of Ancient. She was in a relationship to Dr. Simon Wallis and had a dog named Sedgewick.

    When President Henry Hayes was elected, he handpicked her to take over for General George Hammond at Stargate Command. Hayes wanted a civilian face on the program to lessen the blow to the public. During her first week of command the Gou'ald Anubis launched an attack on Earth. She ordered the Prometheus to Antarctica, in order to protect SG-1 and the newly discovered Ancient outpost which was successful in defeating Anubis' fleet. With the other nations now aware of the Stargate and the Ancient outpost, she lead the negotiations to reenter the outpost but the talks stalled. Later, she and Dr. Daniel Jackson negotiated with the Gou'ald System Lords but the talks ended with no ground gained. After this she was put in charge of the Antarctic Research Outpost and its international staff, and newly promoted General Jack O'Neill took her place at Stargate Command.

    Teyla Emmagan

    Teyla Emmagan is a native of the Pegasus Galaxy and the leader of the Athosians. She is a member of the First Atlantis Reconnaissance Team. Her first appearance was "Rising (1)." She is played by actress Rachel Luttrell.

    Early Life:

    Teyla Emmagan is the daughter of Tagan, the former leader of the Athosians. When her father was culled by the Wraith, her people looked to her for guidance because her ability to sense the Wraith. During her childhood she was very close to a fellow Asthosian named Kanaan who also had the gift to sense the Wraith.

    Lt. Aiden Ford

    USMC Lt. Aiden Ford is Major Sheppard's second in command during the first year of the the Atlantis Expedition and an original member of the First Atlantis Reconnaissance Team. His first appearance was "Rising (1)." He is played by actor Rainbow Sun Francks.

    Early Life:

    Lt. Aiden Ford was raised by his grandparents. He had no brothers or sisters but has very close to his cousin Lara. He served at Stargate Command before being assigned to the Atlantis Expedition. He is an expert in explosives and weapons.

    Dr. Rodney McKay

    Dr. Rodney McKay is a Canadian Astrophysicist and Chief Scientific Advisor on the Atlantis Expedition. He is an original member of the First Atlantis Reconnaissance Team. His first appearance was "Rising (1)." He is played by actor David Hewlett.

    Early Life:

    Dr. Rodney McKay was born in 1968 in Canada where he grew up with his little sister Jeanie. As a child he studied to become a pianist but later abandoned it. In the sixth grade he built a nuclear device for the science fair and was questioned by the C.I.A. During his college years, he earned two Ph.D's in Astrophysics and Mechanical Engineering. He also once admitted to have smoked marijuana during this time and claimed he didn't feel any adverse affects, apart from itching and a desire to eat an entire loaf of white bread. When his sister decided pass up a promising career in science to start a family, they had a massive argument and didn't talk for four years before seeing her again.

    McKay went to work for the United States Air Force and was stationed at the Area 51 facility. There, he became one of the premier experts on the Stargate network. When Teal'c was trapped in the Stargate's buffer system, he was brought to the SGC to assist then Major Carter. It was his belief that Teal'c's would only survive for 48 hours. Ultimately, he was proven wrong and Teal'c's was rematerialized. After these events he was reassigned to Russia where he assisted them in their development of naqahdah generator technology.

    Several months later he was sent back to the SGC to assist Carter again when the Gou'ald Anubis attempted to overload Earth's Stargate. He attempted to disable the device on the other side of the gate with an electromagnetic pulse. The attempt is unsuccessful and Carter is injured in the process.

    Ronon Dex

    Ronon Dex is a native of the Pegasus Galaxy and a former member of the Satedan military as well as a former Wraith Runner. He is a member of the First Atlantis Reconnaissance Team. His first appearance was "Runner." He is played by actor Jason Momoa.

    Early Life:

    Ronon is a native of the planet Sateda and a former Specialist in their military. He was in a relationship with a woman named Milena. Seven years prior to his contact with Colonel Sheppard and Teyla his world was culled by the Wraith. Milena was killed when a Wraith Dart fired on the hospital she was in. Ronon was later beamed into a Dart and taken to a Hive. When a Wraith began to feed on him he sensed Ronon's superior strength and defiance and implanted a beacon in his back making him a Runner.

    Dr. Carson Beckett

    Dr. Carson Beckett is a Scottish Surgeon and Chief Medical Doctor during the first three years of the Atlantis Expedition. His first appearance was "Rising (1)." He is played by actor Paul McGillion.

    Early Life:

    Beckett was born in Scotland and is one of seven siblings. He is a natural carrier of the ATA Gene.

    Colonel Samantha Carter

    USAF Colonel Samantha Carter is an original member of SG-1 and the second leader of the Atlantis Expedition. Her first appearance was "Letters From Pegasus." She is played by actress Amanda Tapping.

    Early Life:

    Samantha was born on December 29, 1968. She is the daughter of USAF Major General Jacob Carter. She joined the Air Force and got a Ph.D. in Astrophysics. She logged over 100 hours of flight time over enemy air space in the Gulf War. After the war she was assigned to the Pentagon for 2 years trying to get the Stargate Program up and running. She then joined the program and helped design the dialing program for the gate. A year after the first Abydos mission, then a Captain, she joined Colonel Jack ONeill as the second in command of the flagship team SG-1. After 10 years as part of SG-1, she was assigned to lead the Atlantis Expedition.

    Richard Woolsey

    Richard Woolsey is a representative of the I.O.A. and the third leader of the Atlantis Expedition. His first appearance was "No Man's Land." He is played by actor Robert Picardo.

    Early Life:

    Little is know about Woolsey's past other then he is divorced and his father suffer from Alzheimer's before he died. He was a former member of the Harvard Law Review, Chief Counsel of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and an appellate advocate for Hartshorn and Slaughter, a prestigious litigation boutiques in New York City. He was part of the N.I.D. in 2004 and was assigned by Senator Kinsey to review the command decision by General Hammond to send a rescue team for SG-13 which resulted in the death of Dr. Janet Fraiser. Kinsey would use this info to try and convince newly elected President Hayes that the program be taken out of military hands. After learning of Kinsey's ties to the rouge N.I.D. elements know as The Trust, he informed Hayes. In 2005, he joined the I.O.A. and started to oversee the S.G.C. and the Atlantis expedition on their behalf. In 2008, he took over command of the expedition from Colonel Carter.

    Dr. Jennifer Keller

    Dr . Jennifer Keller is an American Surgeon and Chief Medical Doctor during the forth and fifth years of the Atlantis Expedition. Her first appearance was "First Strike." She is played by actress Jewel Staite.

    Early Life:

    Keller was born and raised in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, USA. Her mother died during her childhood and she is now all her father has left. During her educational years, she was always ahead of her c lass having graduated from her high school at the age of 15 and earned a Bachelor's degree before she was 18. After finishing medical school she joined the Stargate Program and was later assigned to the Atlantis expedition.
