Search and Rescue was a Shockingly Great Episode. It was full of action, in depth story lines culminating together, and as always a little comical relief. This was a great start to a new season of Stargate Atlantis. Some older story lines were drawn closer to an end, however there are new questions at hand. I must admit I'm a little shocked at the ending, and skeptical of the future. I hope that the show continues to exude the same quality as it has for the last 4 seasons. There is a lot going on for all of the characters right now, and I look forward to seeing how things play out.moreless
  • good episode...

John, Ronon, McKay, and Lawrence are all trapped in the wreckage of the facility where they thought Teyla would be. Michael got a signal and goes to the planet in an attempt to capture the survivors of the collaspe. Meanwhile, Sam and a team are also attempting a rescue. Eventually, the US ship comes along and a battle ensues, Teyla is rescued, and Michael is killed. I actually liked the story because it gave closure. Finally Teyla is rescued and her baby born. I loved when John and Ronon were trapped under the wreckage; they have great character interactions. McKay had tons of great funny moments in this episode. Overall, good start to the season because of it's interesting story and great character developments.moreless
  • Solving cliff hanger...

Now, after not too long wait we can see what comes after the collaps at the end of last season. I most say I had my hopes high. Maybe because it ended in interesting place, maybe because there haven't been nothing new for some time and this serie was one thing to be waiting for.

Anyway, because of my higher hopes, I think I did got little disappointment. I liked it, do not get me wrong but it could have been better. There were some amazing scenes and action, very well written dialogs and things that really worked and made amazing atmosphere but also, there were some low moments and together it felt like very bumpy ride on country road.moreless
  • Space battles, huge explosions, damsels in distress, bad guys turn good, danger, defiance, evil enemy runs ways. Just some of the phrases used to describe Search and Rescue.

I have wanted to see this episode since the end of Last Man. It has everything I look for in an Atlantis episode. I love it when the Daedalus and Michaels Cruiser battle it out. The fighting on the Cruiser was great, the fact that Teyla had her baby and they weren't attacked in just weird. Also how did Michael steal the jumper? I have my theories. One is that he forced Beckett to give him the ATA Gene, so he could use the jumper and other Ancient Technology. This wasn't the best season openers on Atlantis, but it was very good none the less. Also if you listen, the Daedalus shields make the same sound as Atlantis's shield when it's raised or lowered. Keep an ear out for it.moreless
  • Search and Rescue picks up where the Last Man left off with Sheppard and his team buried in rubble after Micheals' booby trapped lab collapsed on them and Sam leading the rescue efforts to get them out before Micheal arrives.moreless

I loved this episode! It had everything that you would want in a season premiere action, drama, and plenty of close calls. Everyone was at the top of their game in this episode and it kicked the season off to an excellent start. Sam showed plenty of leadership abilities and I will miss her character when she leaves. Sheppard, Ronon and Mackay were quintessentally themselves and their concern for Teyla and her baby came through loud and clear with their willingness to put themselves in danger by infiltrating Michaels' hive ship in order to get her back. Of course there was the predictable scene of Teyla going into labour on the wraith ship and mackay helping her deliver but I was totally expecting this so I wasn't annoyed and it did provide some very funny Mackay moments!

Search and Rescue was an excellent start to the season and I have high hopes for this fifth season.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • Nitpick: Carter seemed surprised by the wraith tactic of opening a wormhole to prevent escape, however the Goa'uld used this same tactic in Stargate SG-1.

    • Michael's planet was designated M2S-445.

    • Nitpick: Given how quickly the Daedalus disabled Michael's hyperdrive (1 shot), it seems it would be easy to disable Michael's weapons before dropping the shields to beam up Sheppard and Ronon.

    • Goof: The Daedalus has transported through shields several times in the past: Atlantis city shield ("First Strike") and against Wraith while the shields were up ("The Siege (3)"). This is the first time its been suggested that the shields need to be down to use the transport beam. However the shields would have needed to be lowered anyway in order to bring the wounded on the Jumpers aboard.

    • At the end when Colonel Sheppard is lying on the infirmary bed, he is playing with the popular hand held gaming console, the DS Lite, produced by Nintendo.

    • Goof: Teyla names her son Torren after her father but in "Rising (1)" she says she is the daughter of Tagan. Toran was the name of the Athosian that was captured with Teyla and Colonel Sumner and later feed on by the Wraith Keeper in that same episode.

  • QUOTES (28)

    • Caldwell: Major Marks, please make that ship go away.

    • McKay: I am great with kids! The little ones that don't talk back.

    • Teyla: (going into labor) Now, you need to catch him.
      McKay: Catch him?
Teyla: Yes, you need to catch him when I push him out.
McKay: Oh God! Okay, well just... underhand him, all right? I've never been good at baseball.

    • Ronon: How are we supposed to get off the ship now?
      (They look at McKay)
McKay: I just delivered a baby, that's not enough for today?

    • Sheppard: (over the radio) This is Colonel John Sheppard. Identification code Bravo Delta Charlie Alpha Niner. Daedalus please come in.
Caldwell: Authenticated. Colonel Sheppard, what the hell happened to your Jumper?
Sheppard: I got all turned around in the parking garage, I was in a rush so I borrowed this Dart. I've got the team beamed into a storage device.
      Caldwell: Do you have Teyla?
      Sheppard: Yes, and the baby.
Caldwell: You beamed a baby into storage?
Sheppard: No, I've got him right here.
(Sheppard has the baby in his lap)

    • McKay: Hey, what's with the bag?
      Carter: What's with the flowers.
McKay: I'm going to see Teyla. Oh, you probably heard I delivered the baby.
Carter: I did. And they tell me she's gonna name him Rodney.
      McKay: Yes! Really?
      Carter: No. Not really.

    • Teyla: I cannot believe you attempted to mount a rescue in your condition.
Sheppard: Attempt? The last time I checked, I succeeded.

    • Sheppard: How's the kid?
Teyla: Dr. Keller says that he's perfectly healthy. I say he's perfectly…everything.
      Sheppard: That's great.
Teyla: I want to thank you.
      Sheppard: There's no need.
Teyla: I never gave up hope because I knew…I knew that you would come for me, John.
Sheppard: You would have done the same for me.
      Teyla: Yes.

    • Sheppard: Colonel, I have more respect for you than any commanding officer I've ever had, but I'm getting on that jumper, end of story. I'll surrender for court martial later when I'm done.

    • Caldwell: As a rule, I like to keep daring rescues down to one a day.

    • Sheppard: Patch me up, I need to get back out there.
Keller: No, no, no look, you will be fine, but you're far from it now. You've lost a lot of blood. You need surgery, and a transfusion, and I mean, this can't wait.
Sheppard: Look, doc, Michael's here, that means Teyla's probably on the ship. I'm too close to sit here and do nothing.
Keller: You're not gonna be sitting around doing nothing, you're gonna be laying here in surgery.
Sheppard: There's gotta be a quick fix, I just, I need a few hours.
      Keller: No. I'm sorry I can't.
(Sheppard grabs her arm with a bloody hand)
Sheppard: I have had a chance, to rescue a teammate before, and it slipped through my hands. I am not letting that happen again.

    • Ronon: All right, how do you want to play this?
Sheppard: Shoot till we can't shoot anymore.
      Ronon: All right.
      Sheppard: Been a pleasure.
      Ronon: Same.

    • (After being told to shut up)
      McKay: That's footsteps.
Lorne: Okay, revise that, start making noise.

    • McKay: Michael's database. A large chunk of it, maybe the whole thing too. I mean we've got base schematics, medical research information, list of planets. Do you know what this means?
Lorne: Yeah, it means we're still stuck here and I still have a broken leg.
McKay: Yeah in the short term, but if we get out of here…
      Lorne: "If?"
McKay: We'd have him on the run, he'd be finished.

    • (Ronon pulls the rebar out of Sheppard's side)
Sheppard: What the hell was that?
Ronon: Just a little scrape, no big deal.

    • Teyla: I never gave up hope because I knew. I knew that you would come for me John.
Sheppard: I know this sounds crazy, but I don't remember...rescuing you.
(Looks into the fire, turns back)
Ford: You don't remember rescuing her because you didn't. Just like you didn't rescue me.
      (Sheppard wakes up)

    • Sheppard: What are you going to name the kid?
Teyla: Well, if it's alright with you, I was going to name him Torren John, after my father and after you.
      Keller: McKay's gonna hate that.
      Sheppard: I'd be honored.
Teyla: Very well, Torren John Emmagan.

    • McKay: So how are you doing?
Teyla: The pain is very great.
McKay: Oh yeah, yeah I had a kidneystone once, incredibly painful. Same kinda thing from what I'm told so I... I hear you. Actually my cat and I had one at the same time, we were not fun to be around, I'll tell you that much. He got his because he ate too much of the dry food, I got mine because I wasn't drinking enough liquids... you know, that's why you always see me hydrating. I have no desire to experience that kind of pain again. Oh, it's just that...
Teyla: (while cringing in pain) Fascinating story, thank you!
      McKay: You're welcome.

    • McKay: You know, Ronon and I could probably handle this, why don't you stay with the jumper?
      (Sheppard glares)
      McKay: Or not...

    • McKay: I'm claustrophobic, I'm trying to keep my mind busy which is hard know, it's my mind.

    • Ronon: You're not quitting on me are you?
Sheppard: No...Yeah well, I was thinking about it.
Ronon: That's not part of the deal.
Sheppard: You keep adding things to that deal of ours.

    • Sheppard: That's the wrong way, chief.
Ronon: If we get this beam off you, get you free, we can dig ourselves out together, deal?
Sheppard: You ain't gonna listen to me one way or the other, are you?
      Ronon: We got a deal.

    • Sheppard: I'm so stupid! Of course the building was booby trapped, I should have seen that coming.
Ronon: Yeah well, none of us did.
Sheppard: Yeah but, I'm the know, like the guy.

    • McKay: Look I don't want to concern you anymore then you actually already are but if I'm reading this correctly, Micheal already is...
      Lorne: Shut up.
      McKay: No you shut up!

    • McKay: I think I just hit the jackpot.
Lorne: What, so a way to broadcast the signal? Let people know our location, speed up the rescue, what?
McKay: No though you're right, in hindsight that should probably be the jackpot.

    • (While panicking over having to delivery Teyla's baby)
McKay: Am I allowed to touch you down there?

    • (Sheppard going to surgery)
      Keller: Are you ready, Colonel?
Sheppard: Ready? From my understanding I'm not doing anything.
Keller: That's right, you just have to lie still and let me play with your insides.

    • Lorne: I'm pretty sure my leg is broken.
McKay: Yeah, I think I'm remarkably fine.
Lorne: (sarcastically) Well isn't that wonderful. That brings me great comfort, thank you.
