Stargate Atlantis

Season 1 Episode 18

The Gift

Aired Friday 10:00 PM Mar 11, 2005 on Syfy

  • Trivia

    • Beckett: ...they're still much closer to the bug creature that attacked Major Sheppard than to us.

This refers to the events of "Thirty Eight Minutes."

    • The team finds a Wraith data device, a small computer hardrive similar to a flash drive, like the one the Genii had in the episode "Underground."

    • This episode is set about a week after "The Brotherhood", leaving less than a week left until the Wraith arrive.

    • The Wraith communicate telepathically with each other but cannot read the minds of humans.

    • Goof: In the briefing room scene just after the title sequence, we see Bates and Ford standing next to each other. Sheppard and Teyla are in front of them. In different shots we see a man appear between Ford and Bates when there wasn't anyone between them in the previous shots.

    • It is discovered that the Wraith evolved after the Ancients arrived. The Iratus bugs seen in "Thirty Eight Minutes" are an ancestor of the Wraith. The introduction of human DNA to the planet helped the creatures evolve into what we know now as the Wraith.

  • Quotes

    • McKay: Well, since we got here we've uncovered a number of defensive weapon systems beyond the shield. Wha...
Zelenka: (Interrupts McKay) We think our best option is the control chair.
McKay: I was gonna say that.
Zelenka: Yes, but you were taking too long, as usual.

    • McKay: I thought you already said they had a number of genetic characteristics similar to humans.
Beckett: They do. But they're still much closer to the bug creature that attacked Major Sheppard than to us.
Sheppard: Hey, thought that we weren't going to mention that any more.
      Beckett: Sorry.

    • Sheppard: You're saying Teyla's part Wraith!
      Beckett: A very small part.
Weir: Which makes her about as different from us as you, because of the Ancient gene you possess.

    • Sheppard: Look Teyla, I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with you. God forbid. But you yourself admitted that you were a little off your game. You snapped at Dr Weir this morning in the briefing room for no good reason, and now you're biting my head off for caring that you might need help dealing with the fact that it has been three days since you've had any sleep.
Teyla: I'm sorry, but I do not need any help, the Wraith are coming and what I need is to do something!
Sheppard: Ok, good. I suggest you take a nap.

    • Sheppard: Granted, you guys are scientists, no one's considering putting you guys on the front line, but science can turn the tide of war. Look at the... A bomb. Zelenka: Not exactly our proudest moment.

    • Weir: I wonder...
McKay: Just so you know, you didn't actually finish that sentence out loud.

    • Beckett: Physiologically you and your people are the same as we are. I have no explanation for any of your special super powers.
      Teyla: I only have one.
Beckett: I've seen you fight, my dear.

    • Sheppard: (floors Teyla) Are you okay?
      Teyla: Yes.
Sheppard: Are you sure? Because its usually me picking my butt up off the mat.

    • Sheppard: All I'm saying is, let's not give up -- just yet.
McKay: Now what was that we were supposed to all remember? It was something important ... uh, oh yes, that's right -- the Alamo!

    • Weir(to Beckett): Your theory of the Wraith evolving after the Ancients arrived in Pegasus galaxy ...
      McKay: Oh, you're kidding me!
      Zelenka: Pay up.

    • Weir: According to Doctor Zelenka's calculations, we have less than one week before the Wraith arrive. I want options.
McKay: You mean, besides crying ourselves to sleep. (Zelenka looks at him) Well, not me! I haven't slept in days.

    • McKay: I've got something here.
      Ford: Really?
      McKay: I dunno. I've got a little...
Ford: You've got a little what? Hey, McKay, you've got a little what?! What? Oh, it's okay when you guys make fun of me!

  • Notes

    • During the opening late-night montage, in Lt. Ford's room, there is a comic book cover bearing the likeness of director Martin Wood. This comic, The Amazing Avenger!, was created for the Stargate SG-1 episode "Avenger 2.0" but was never seen on camera.

    • Dr. Heightmeyer's first name was originally scripted as 'Jane'. It wasn't until Peter DeLuise pointed out to Robert Cooper that there is an actress named Jayne Heitmeyer (Earth: Final Conflict), that her name was changed to 'Kate'.
