Martin: Maybe we can have Puppet O'Neill jump over a puppet shark on a one-third scale motorcycle!
This was done in Happy Days by Fonzie but on a pair of water skis instead of his motorcycle as an attempt to get viewers to watch the program again. Now when a program does a major plot twist as a way to get back viewers, it is called "jumping the shark." Jumping the shark is also used to refer to the point at which the quality of a show declines for the remainder of the run.
