Episode Summary

It's the Christmas season, and while Starsky is happily getting into the festivities, Hutch is far more sceptical about people's sudden goodwill over the period. Responding to a call of petty shop-lifting, the pair meet Molly, a twelve-year-old tomboy, who lives with her father, a recently released convict turned alcoholic. But when soon after the girl's father is murdered by his two former partners-in-crime, who are determined to get their hands on the stolen diamond cache he went to prison for, Hutch finds himself taking Molly in for Christmas.
Unfortunately, with Molly being the only one who now knows the whereabouts of the diamonds, the two crooks who killed her father are now after her...moreless

I liked this episode because we get to see the sentimental side of both the guys. Hutch wanting to take in the girl so she won't have to go to juvie during Christmas and Starsky giving her candy cane money. There was a lot of character development in this episode but why does Hutch hate Christmas and why does Starsky, who is Jewish, have both the Star of David in the car yet openly talk about celabrating Christmas?moreless

    ADD TRIVIA
    • Plot nit-pick: Starsky and Hutch meet Molly, who's been reported for shop-lifting, take her home, and within minutes she gets the phone call that her father has been killed. Plot-wise, it comes across as all a little too convenient that they just happen to be there at that precise time! Edit

    ADD NOTES
    • This was actually the first episode to be produced for the second season. It's the "Christmas episode" of the series; first broadcast in the U.S. on Christmas Day 1976. Edit
    • During filming of the chase sequence at the climax of this episode, David Soul broke his ankle. As a result, though not apparent on camera, in the next story filmed after this, the feature-length / two-part 'Murder At Sea', he had his ankle taped up. Edit
    • Guillermo San Juan returns as Kiko, Hutch's 'little brother' in the Big Brother program in season one's episode "Running". On this occasion, we also see Kiko's mother. Edit
