When they blow the capture of a wanted felon, Starsky and Hutch each blame the other, and lay down a bet to see whether or not Hutch can successfully elude Starsky for a whole weekend. But the exercise in hide-and-seek becomes more than just a game when Starsky realises that Hutch has unknowingly eaten contaminated soup, and could die from the potentially lethal botulism poisoning.

      ADD TRIVIA
      • When Hutch, disguised as a thug, gets a room at the motel, follows owner Ernie upstairs and catches his head on the light, causing his hat to come off, a small hook can quite clearly be seen attached to the light in order to pull the hat off. Edit
      • While calling for an ambulance, the address of The Pits is given in this episode, as being "1348 6th Street". However, in the third season episode 'Hutchinson: Murder One', Hutch had given it as "13th off Holland". (Despite the different appearance, both exterior and interior, of The Pits this season, there is no real suggestion that it has changed premises). Edit
    • Notes

      ADD NOTES
      • Jack Ging (Ray Padree, the episode's bad guy), would go on to play re-occurring Lieutenant Ted Quinlan in Stephen J. Cannell's adventure series 'Riptide' (1984-1986). He was killed off mid-third season so he could switch to playing re-occuring pursuer General Harlan "Bull" Fulbright in the fourth season of 'The A-Team' (1983-1986), also from Cannell. (Ironically, he was one of the very few characters ever to be killed in that series, too!) Edit
      • The plot of this episode is a reworking of popular 1960's spy series 'I Spy's first season episode 'Bet Me A Dollar' (1966). In that story, Kelly Robinson (Robert Culp) bets partner Alexander Scott (Bill Cosby) that he can disappear for a week without being found, only for Scott to subsequently learn that Robinson has been contaminated by an anthrax virus and must be found for treatment. Edit
      • Apparently, the early scripts for this episode had the roles reversed – Starsky was the one hiding and Hutch was the seeker, but it was changed in order to give David Soul the less physically demanding role to accommodate for his injured back. Edit
