Stat

Show Summary

Stat is a situation comedy series about the mishaps that occur in a New York hospital emergency room. The season opens with senior physician Dr. Tony Menzies (Dennis Boutsikaris) taking on a new resident staff that includes the attractive Dr. Elizabeth Newberry (Alison La Placa) and the playboy, Dr. Lewis "Cowboy" Doniger (Casey Biggs). Dr. Tony constantly clashes wits with the hospital's administrator, Jeanette Lemp (Alix Elias), as the two never see eye to eye on how to resolve problems in the workplace. Starting from day one, humorous calamities occur in the emergency room, including a husband admitted for having labor pains, a stubborn lawyer who refuses to sign a release form and an incompetent lab that can't get their blood types right. After orderly Julio Oscar (Julio Oscar Mechoso) and nurse Anderson (Ron Canada) join the medical staff's crazy antics, Jeanette almost admits herself to the psychiatric ward, trying to keep her staff in working order. The show's award-winning creator and writer, Danny Arnold, also produced the hit TV shows Barney Miller and Bewitched.

  • Comedy About The Trials And Tribulations Of The Emergency Staff Of A City Hospital.

    7.5
A Nice Little Comedy Gem With An Above Average Cast And Good Writing.

Unfortunately, It Aired On A STRUGGLING ABC Network In A Brutal Time Slot (Tues. 9:30PM) So It Never Had A Chance. Dennis Boutsikaris And Alison LaPlaca. Two Very Under Appriciated Actors, Play The Main Characters. Who, Spend Most Of Their Time Trying To Develop A Relationship And A Social Life, While Dealing With Out Of Control Patients And An Equally Out Of Control Staff In An Under Funded And Under Staffed N.Y. City Emergency Room. The Show Had Some Very Funny Moments, And The Sexual Tension Between Boutsikaris And LaPlaca Made For Great Moments. Too Bad We'll Never Know If They Ever Worked It Out. It Didn't Help Matters That This Was A Rehash Of Another Failed, Identical Sitcom Done In 1978 Starring Gregory Sierra Of "Barney Miller" Fame. Called "A.E.S. Hudson St." Which Ran, Oddly Enough. From March 16th 1978 To April 20th 1978. A Slightly Shorter Time Than This Show. Interesting To Note Is That The Writers Didn't Even Bother To Change The Name Of The Main Character Played By Boutsikaris And Sierra. It Was "Dr Tony Menzies" In BOTH Series.moreless
