Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • Nitpick: There's absolutely no way Static can take down most of the Justice League.

    • When Richie is putting on his shoes, he first puts his right foot shoe on his left foot and is seen with his left foot on the bed. After Virgil speaks to him, he has his right foot on the bed and is lifting up his right shoe.

    • After Flash takes Brainiac apart to free Richie, he still has the metal restraints clamped onto him. Yet Hawkgirl simply picks him up without so much as removing those restaints.

    • When Green Lantern tells Static he can't fight Braniac's head-ship, both of them are standing under the tail of the Javelin. When it takes off, Static has moved out beyond the nose, but he never took a step.

    • Unless The Flash is wearing metallic shoes, magnetizing the bridge wouldn't slow him down. (Reply: It's entirely possible that Flash's boots are laced with metal. And if not, he could've made the magnetic field of the bridge strong enough to attract the iron in Flash's bloodstream to gather at his feet.)

    • If Static's natural electrical field is able to short out such a powerful device, wouldn't he also short out other devices he came near? Computers? Televisions? Backpack? (Reply: It is possible where Virgil is really trying, his powers increase. if he has been using his powers for about 2 minutes, he could still have a strong electric charge. And it wasn't necessarily his electric field, it was the natural body current. Something that every person and living thing has. Maybe because of the mutated gas, and the electrostatic powers, his charge is stronger.)

    • How does Static stay ahead of the mind-controlled Flash? He's nowhere near that fast.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • (Static has freed four of the five Justice Leaguers from Brainiac's control)
Static: (counting off on his fingers) Let's see: Batman, Flash, Hawkgirl, J'onn...who's left?
(A green bolt nearly hits him from Green Lantern below)
Static: Oh, yeah...the Lord of the Ring.

    • Braniac: Justice League, destroy him.
Static: Who, me? Wait a minute, guys. I don't want to have to hurt you. (Pause) Heh. I guess that sounded as lame to you as it did to me.

    • (Green Lantern shines a green light to see into the dark)
      Batman: Notice anything?
Static: You don't look too good in green?

    • Hawkgirl: Your friend is missing, and so is ours.
Green Lantern: Flash came here hours ago to investigate whether Braniac had escaped into Gear's computer.
Martian Manhunter: We haven't heard from him all day. That's suspicious, even factoring in his usual irresponsibility.

    • Virgil: Come on, Rich. We're way late. From now on, if you wanna catch up on your sleep, do it during first period History like the rest of us.

  • NOTES (5)

    • This episode was nominated for a Annie Award for Outstanding Directing in an Animated Television Production.

    • When they were in the gas station, Flash said, "What, you couldn't find a vacant treehouse?" Richie made a similar crack in "They're Playing My Song," when "The Abandoned Gas Station of Solitude" made its first appearance.

    • When Static and the Justice League go to the mill, they take some kind of ship, although all of them (except Batman and the Flash) are capable of flight. But one could have taken Batman, and it couldn't have been that far. So, why would they have bothered to use the ship?

    • Dwayne McDuffie claims that he originally wanted to "torture" Phil LaMarr with this episode by having numerous dialogue exchanges between Static and Green Lantern. Both are, of course, voiced by Phil.

    • This episode continues a Static Shock season tradition. In every season, (with the exception of the first season) Static teams up with a DC Universe Hero. This marks the second time this season and features more than one hero. The Heroes: The Justice League (Batman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, Flash, Green Lantern).

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Static: Oh yeah, the Lord of the Ring!
Reference to the classic series of novels from author J.R.R. Tolkien that have become mega hit movies by director Peter Jackson.
