  • A really good start to a great series.

I enjoyed this episode of Static Shock. I think that it really did well setting up the characters and left us wanting more. I liked the gang violence and fights and all of the realistic elements such as that. I like the fact that it has an African American superhero and his best friends is white. Some would say that this is controversial and not very realistic but it realy doesn't matter to me. I like it. I don't know how well the episode follows the comic book series because I have never read the comic book series. Nonetheless this was great and I recomend this episode and the series to everyone who loves heroes and cartoons.moreless
  • Great ep!

Virgil Hawkins is a smart, funny teen who gets beat up by gang leader Francis, who calls himself "F-Stop." The other gang leader, Wade, protects him a couple of times, but says he can't be there all the time for him. He wants Virgil to join his gang. Virgil doesn't want to be part of a gang since gang's gunfire killed his mother. Wade tells Virgil to show up at the docks. Virgil is afraid to say no, so he shows up.

They give him a gun as F-Stop's gang shows up, and a gang fight begins. He throws the gun in the river and hides as the police arrive. As soon as the police gets there, they start shooting. They hit some gas canisters, the gas spreads out over the docks.

Virgil runs home and the next day, discovers he can control electricity and anything metallic. He goes over to Richie's house, his best friend, and they pick out a costume and a superhero name for Virgil. And Static Shock is born.moreless
  • Virgil Hawkins alias Static Shock, takes care of a couple of robbers, then tells his back story. Goes through the Big Bang, and the gaining of super powers.

I\'m an artist at heart, which is why the series first appealed to me. I enjoyed the way the characters were drawn and animated. Although the character drawings may have got my attention, the playing out of the gang fights, the Big Bang, and Virgil\'s discovery of power got me hooked. I mean, c\'mon, tell me you wouldn\'t freak out if you got super powers? The way he reacts to everything he attracts/turns on is exactly how I would feel if I were in his shoes. Then after he got over the wierdness of the situation he was like a kid in a candy shop. Then again, boys will be boys. Even Richie is bouncin\' off the wall and he doesn\'t have powers, yet. Then after some heavy ego stroking for the newly dubbed Static Shock, one of the new super-powered gang-bangers turns out to be the cute but evil bully, Francis. How fitting is that? The show definently promised a lot of interesting times.moreless

  • The first episode of Static Shock, Virgil Hawkins is a good kid living in Dakota city, he gets caught up in gangs and is at the docks during the big bang, thus attaining his electric powers. He then goes to see his friend Richie, and Static is born.moreless

This is a pretty good opening episosde, it introduces all of the main characters and explains how some of Dakota's people developed their powers. The thing that makes these early episodes worse than later ones is that the drawings and graphics are, not *bad*, but not nearly as good as the ones in later seasons. Overall its an interesting episode, but it could have been better.
