Episode Summary

After defeating Puff and Onyx, Static and Gear notice a billboard advertising a new show called "Heros" staring Static Shock. Static visits the office of film producer Rast and tells him he doesn't want to star in any movie. But Rast convinces him that kids need a role model and Static agrees. Rast, who is a rude and arrogant boss with his staff, tells Static that Gear wasn't in the movie but Static says that Gear is his partner and argues for it. Static and Gear go on patrol with 2 helicopters flying with them wherever they go. A criminal by the name of Starburst breaks into a bank and Static and Gear try to stop him. Their powers have no effect on him and Rast is furious saying they looked bad in filming. Gear lets Static fight Starburst because it seems his powers are similar to Static's. For the next 2 days Static fights Starburst with losing results and bad press. Richie plays the footage of Static's last encounter with Starburst and notes that Static's attack should have stopped him, that is if he were a metahuman. They discover a pack on his suit that could be the source of his powers but it would need to receive the powers from somewhere else. Static and Gear lay a trap for Starburst. During filming the bad guy makes an appearance instead of fighting him, Static destroys the mike and recorder that were on him. Starburst quickly loses his powers and they capture him easily. It's Rast's assistants who did it because he needed funding for the script Rast never looked at.moreless

    • Trivia

      ADD TRIVIA
      • When Sharon and Pops are watching the preview commercial of the Heroes TV show, it shows a clip of Static blasting Ebon from the rear, which was the exact same clip seen in the episode "Flashback". The only difference though was from that episode, this occured at night after Static and Gear travelled back in time, so it's unlikely that would have been filmed for the commercial, which somehow has this exact clip shown as occuring in the daytime. • Notes

      ADD NOTES
      • Starburst's energy-draining powers are based off of Prometheus, one of Static's enemies that had the ability to drain energy from other things and use it against them. The only thing that Starburst didn't have was the ability to create thunder dragons. Edit
      • The TV Show "Heroes" is a nod to both the short-lived Milestone book of the same name and the FOX series, Cops. Near the end of Milestone's regular run, Static joins a superhero team who called themselves "Heroes." Lasting for only six issues, the team consisted of Static, former Shadow Cabinet members Donner, Blitzen, and Iota, Payback (a former Icon foe), and Starlight. The logo to "Heroes" (seen on a advertisement) looks similar to the one used for the comic. Edit

      • Gear: You'd think the bad guys would know about silent alarms by now. Puff: That's us: Silent, but alarming! Edit
    • Allusions

      ADD ALLUSIONS
      • Rast: I don't care if you have to climb over the counter and pour it in yourself.
In "The Devil Wears Prada" (the book, not the movie), Andrea had to do the same thing for her unpleasant boss. Edit
      • Richie: Pinky, are you thinking what I'm thinking?
This quote was often used in the popular WB animated series Pinky and the Brain, which starred two lab mice, one who was bent on ruling the world and the other a little insane, appropriate enough for the comic relief in this series. Regarding this catch phrase though, Brain usually says "Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?" Edit
