    • QUOTES (12)

      • Fran: (to Harold, about the filled body bag they carried down the stairs) It's my father, I'm going to bury him out in his garden, I think out there he can rest. But I'm so hot and tired, can you help me?
        Harold: ...Sure.

      • Fran: (riding on a motorcycle) Harold, I don't think I'm going to get used to these calluses on my fanny.

      • (Mother Abagail talks to Ralph and Nick about what God has told her. Ralph reads Nick's response)
Ralph Bretner: Uh, Nick says that... he says he don't believe in God.
Mother Abagail Freemantle: (laughs) God bless you, Nick! But it don't matter! He believes in you.

      • (Larry is surprised by a woman traveling with a little boy)
Lucy Swan: I'm so pleased to meet you.
Larry Underwood: Yeah, same here, believe me. (To the boy) How ya doin', son?
(The boy pulls out a knife and nearly slashes Larry but Lucy pulls him back)
        Larry Underwood: Whoa!
Lucy Swan: (to the boy) Put that away!
Larry Underwood: Nice kid! Has he had his rabies shots yet?
Lucy Swan: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. He's–he's been... traumatized.
        Larry Underwood: Haven't we all.

      • (Stu pets Glen Bateman's dog, Kojak)
Stu Redman: He's the first dog I've seen in, uh... well, since the third week of June.
Glen Bateman: Yeah. Superflu took most of the dogs... right along with their idiot masters. Most unfair.

      • Mother Abagail: (to God) Oh, I'll do what you say, Lord... don't I always? But even your own Son prayed that the cup be taken from his lips, and I'm praying the same thing. (laughs) Probably get about the same answer, too!

      • Stu Redman: (surprising Glen) I'm a friend.
Glen Bateman: (looking at Stu's M16) I certainly hope so.
Stu Redman: (holding up the gun) Think of it as home defense... while on the road.

      • Mother Abigail Freemantle: (to God about the plague) Once in every generation, the plague shall fall among them. That's what it says in the Book. Seems like maybe you went a little too far this time.

      • Mother Abigail Freemantle: (to God) I hear you, Lord, and I'm in the way of doing your will, but I don't much like it!

      • Larry Underwood: (to Nadine, who is leaving him because she doesn't want to go into the tunnel) I don't need this prima donna act! You have fun getting raped and murdered back on 7th Avenue, sweetheart!

      • Larry Underwood: We have to get out of the city. It's not just the odds of getting shot. Do you know what it's going to smell like in two weeks? Five million dead people rotting in the July sun?
Nadine Cross: I think you're right. The Big Apple is baked.

      • Randall Flagg: Liars sit in chairs, you know. Truth tellers just sort of hunker down.

    • NOTES (1)

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • Randall Flagg: Pleased to meet you, Lloyd. Hope you guess my name. Lloyd Henreid: Huh?
Randall Flagg: Just a little classical reference.

This is a reference (made by Randall) to a line in the famous song "Sympathy for the Devil" by The Rolling Stones.
