How to describe a show that lasted like 7 episodes. Under appreciated? Yes, that could say it. Just another sci-fi show? Yes and no. While Strange was in the vein of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, but that is where the similarites end. What best describes Strange? Well, I guess it was Strange (but in a good way). The show was an unusual mix of religious iconography and twisted story telling. Unfortunately, it did not always play well, and some of the episodes were tedious; however, I felt the originality of the concept won over the formula story line. The basic story line was a former priest, his band of misfits including a nurse, a "sensitive person", and a computer wiz, batteling against the demons of the neatherworld. While at the same time, facing obstacles from former co-workers, lovers, and other daily life situations.
If you are looking for Richard Coyle, Jonathan Strange, to be funny, look some where else. This was dark story telling with little humor, however, with that said, Richard Coyle did an OUTSTANDING job in this role. Unfortunately, like many other shows, Strange ended too soon. Unlike other shows, at the time of this review, it is not available on DVD in any region (at least that I can find). So if you see it in re-runs, check it out, there is a 50-50 shot you'll like it.
