  • Just look inside, okay?

    9.2
Today's a special day for Honey Pie: She's taking a little trip to a place called Marshmallow Marsh, so the other core protagonists throw a going-away party. Sheesh, pig out on the various treats offered, why doesn't she. But hey, the horse promises to bring the humans back some gifts: Strawberry Shortcake; standard marshmallows, Apple Dumplin'; miniature marshmallows, Ginger Snap; chocolate-covered marshmallows, Orange Blossom; orange marshmallows, Angel Cake; marshmallow cream, and Huckleberry Pie; toasted marshmallows. According to Honey's description of her trip alongside the kids' suspense, the path to Marshmallow Marsh must be quite a load. The "Have A Good Trip" sequence is crazy! Everybody just can't wait to get rid of Honey Pie.

However, a broken leg due to careless leaping over a fence that I don't recall being there before shatters all previous notions. So now Honey Pie must entertain confinement over the trip for "a few days". Is she confusing pillow feelings? The soft one looks hard to me and vice versa. Poor Custard. In fact, putting up with Honey's bossiness makes all except Strawberry ready to throw in the towel. Ooh, Huck has an idea! Maybe he can go get a magician putting on a show near the boy's home district? Anything's worth a try. In the meantime, the human girls do what THEY can, starting with a second song. Ah, but it'll take just a bit more before Honey's convinced.

How's Huckleberry Pie doing? Nothing much other than a delay that sends him reeling into the River Fudge. Why isn't that kid wearing protective gear? It's already been three episodes. Nevertheless, Honey's storytelling habits spread amongst the ranks, and viewers are treated to character histories. According to Strawberry Shortcake, Strawberryland once experienced awful droughts until she convinced a cloud about joyful tears. That cloud is a LOL riot. Also, it seems Custard and Honey Pie aren't the only beasts around that speak human languages. How'd that bird know how to address Strawberry by name? Eh, maybe she picked it up sometime prior. Next, Ginger Snap brings up a time when she ran out of chocolate chips and so visited a place named Chocolate Town. She was promised some chocolate-covered marshmallows; her story advances on a craving for the stuff. Chocolate coins to turn into chips...or is it chunks? Either way. Next comes Angel Cake, discussing the making of her first birthday cake. She's out of sugar crystals to color her frosting, and blending just anything won't do, hence a trip to Sponge Cake Forest. (We see so many different locations, and the characters mention even more.) The crops are just as squishy as that offered for Apple's first birthday, but look at the colors they offer. Don't eat off the ground, Angel! Yecch!

Orange Blossom's turn! She apparently had a dream about a juice tree that she narrates in a puppet show. Awww, what a puppet. And did Huck do good? Nope, the magician's gone to Upper Hat Rack. Hey, didn't that gingerbread person appear during "The Cookie Song"? No matter. Strawberry and company have been extra busy if those paper chains strung above are anything to go by. Honey Pie recycles her line concerning sunflower seeds from the last episode. Strawberry senses outside activity, so she investigates. What's Huck doing behind that bush? Poor boy's feeling down because of supposed failure until Strawberry brings him up. One failed magic trick brings him down again, but he should try again. Anyone have a hat? Orange does, though I couldn't say how it just appeared next to her. Nevertheless, Honey has such a good time she must stand up and does. Wow! Broken and healed in one day!

The following day sees Honey decked up again (though I don't see why since nobody's riding her). But a twist in the form of a cold sees her confined again, though she takes it with dignity. Oranges as ornaments? There's an idea.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • At the beginning of the Gettin' Better Boogie Woogie sequence, Angel Cake's shoes are the wrong design.

    • During Angel Cake's story, the front of the top half of her overalls tends to blend in with her shirt. This continues over the series whenever she wears a large apron.

    • In a shot near the end of the "It's All How You Look At It" sequence, Huckleberry Pie's hair is longer than usual.

    • The front and back DVD case covers show the bandages on Honey Pie's right forelimb whereas the episode has it she broke the left one.

    • The bird in Strawberry Shortcake's story knew how to address the human girl by name without receiving a formal introduction. Though, it's possible the former may have met the latter sometime prior or just picked up the name.

    • The girls sit down for Huckleberry Pie's magic show, and there's no top hat in sight. When he requests one, it just appears beside Orange Blossom in the next shot.

Police Officer 1: Yeah. What do you think he was gonna do?
Police Officer 2: Maybe stab him with a carrot?
Huckleberry Larry: It's not nice to take other people's milk money! (Huck snaps his neck and bandit rotates backward)
Bandit: Take it easy, boys. (Huck shakes him violently paint-mixer style) Hey! Whah!! Ugh! (coins fall.) Achoo! I ain't feeling good. Hey! Hey! Hey! I've rights!
Police Officer 1: Now's our chance. (pulls out a carrot and stabs the bandit in the heart and tosses the bandit into the car.)
Bandit: (vomits on the floor and dies)

    • Honey Pie: I've seen many other gorgeous forests: forests of redwoods, of pines, and s'mores.

    • Gopher: (about Magic Creek) Well, it's easy to find. Just go this way (points right) and that way (points left), then follow your feet. (points at Strawberry's feet)

    • Honey Pie: I was bored once for a few seconds when I took a trip to Candy Apple Gorge. And I was ever so slightly bored for a minute after a hike up Tapioca Trail. Did I ever tell you the story about the time I climbed…?
Strawberry Shortcake, Apple Dumplin', and Orange Blossom: (interrupting) Yes. (Pupcake barks simultaneously at this)
Honey Pie: What about the day I hopped over…?
Custard, Ginger Snap, and Angel Cake: (interrupting) Heard it.
Honey Pie: Did I mention the moment I decided...?
Others except Pupcake: Over and over.

    • Huckleberry Pie: (after landing in the River Fudge) I think I'm going to be late.

    • Honey Pie: (while Custard and Pupcake adjust pillow) More to the right. No, more to the left. Definitely more to the middle.

    • Angel Cake: (places a pillow down for Honey Pie's head) How's this, Honey?
Honey Pie: (tests the pillow) Too soft.
      Strawberry Shortcake: Hmm.
Angel Cake: (replaces pillow) What about this?
Honey Pie: (tests the pillow) Too hard.
Angel Cake: Oh, dear. (sees something) Aha!
Custard: (realizes Angel Cake's approach) Who, me? Hmm. Here. (gives pillow to Angel)
Angel Cake: (accepts third pillow) Thanks, Custard. (Said feline scoffs as Angel walks back over to Honey) This should do it.
Honey Pie: (tests third pillow) No, it's too... in-between.

  • NOTES (5)

    • The title display for the television broadcast and DVD versions of this episode reads "Strawberry Shortcake's Get Well Adventure."

    • Honey Pies line about scattering sunflower seeds in Sunflower City is recycled from Spring For Strawberry Shortcake. Some lines were recycled from Esther... The Girl Who Became Queen.

    • The gopher and bird in Strawberry Shortcake's story and the chocolate bunny in Ginger Snap's story are the first talking beasts other than Custard and Honey Pie seen in the show.

    • This is a 45 minute episode. The broadcast version is either aired in two parts or edited to 22 minutes.

The following cuts were made to the 22-minute broadcast version to bring it down to the required length:

      - The songs "That's Imagination" and "The Gettin' Better Boogie Woogie" are deleted.
      - Orange Blossom's puppet show about her juice tree dream and Angel Cake's tale of her berry first birthday cake are deleted.
      - Most scenes with Huckleberry Pie are deleted. He is shown leaving to go find the magician and shown saying that he wasn't able to get the magician, but the remainder of the journey is deleted. Additionally, he performs only the magic trick with the rabbit and not the initial, failed card trick.
      - Many scenes of Honey Pie's complaining are removed. In the broadcast version, Honey Pie can only be heard complaining about her predicament briefly after being put to bed. Over five minutes of segments in which Strawberry and her friends endure Honey Pie's complaining and consider giving up taking care of her are cut.
      - During the opening, Strawberry and her friends give Honey Pie food and drinks to take on her trip and Honey Pie promises to bring back gifts. This material is not seen in the broadcast version.
      - A brief sequence in Strawberry's story in which she enjoys her flight in the balloon is removed.
      - Ginger Snap's story of searching for chocolate to make chocolate chips ends with the gopher helping her to tow the coins in a wheelbarrow, rather than with her making her yummiest ever chocolate chips and commenting that she goes back for more whenever she runs out.

    • Featured songs: "Have A Good Trip", "That's Imagination", "The Gettin' Better Boogie Woogie", and "It's All How You Look At It".
