Character origin abound! As the description goes, viewers learn how Strawberry Shortcake became Pupcake's owner. Strawberry Shortcake started off with just one pet, a pink cat named Custard with a greater vocabulary than most house cats. Both are planning a day on Sundae Mountain just to each other. Oops! The pet owner lands inside and struggles her way out of the duffel bag. Hee hee. According to the first song, perhaps her affection for her pet goes too far?

Balance presents itself one rainy night in the form of a lost dog whose howls can be heard all the way from Seattle. Not to mention a strawberry-shaped patch over one eye, interestingly enough. Strawberry Shortcake lets him spend the night inside HER house to Custard's chagrin.

Morning foreshadows a search for the dog's owner. But nobody the trio meets recognizes him. Out of inspiration from Angel Cake, Strawberry Shortcake decides to name him Pupcake. Training him is another technical difficulty, for all he does is run around chasing his tail. Custard's feeling left out. Hold the cameras! Today's her and her owner's special day. Too bad one of Pupcake's messes ruins it all. Pet owner and cat alike sure enjoy exaggerating details about a situation, but another howl makes Custard crack up. A story read by Strawberry Shortcake oughta alleviate things. Uh oh, the cat's got a nasty look and idea.

"...does everything to make the peppy puppy want to leave." Actually, Custard doesn't get farther than the first idea before it backfires on her and Pupcake both. Rain makes the situation worse (nifty effects). But the weather DOES humble the cat a bit, even though she'll act up more later on. The search party can't find them until Custard repeals her request that Pupcake stops howling. Did Strawberry Shortcake move her and Custard's holiday, I wonder? Because if one thinks about it, the search for Pupcake's alleged former owner really WAS the day. Oh well. Time to welcome the household's newest member.

MAJOR CONTINUITY ERROR! Strawberry Shortcake already owned Pupcake back in Meet Strawberry Shortcake and just met the other kids and Honey Pie. If this one technically takes place prior to, how can she already know them and only just becomes the dog's owner? Why didn't the producers keep their facts straight? Furthermore, why would Custard desire berries in her cream when she specifically stated in said past episode that she wanted some that tasted like fish? Well, on the plus side, at least one can understand Apple Dumplin's absence owing to chronology: She was either not born yet, just born, or still an infant. Good enough...for now.moreless

    • Considering again that this technically takes place before Meet Strawberry Shortcake, in which Custard detests berries, why would she want her owner to serve it in her cream? Edit
    • According to poor-quality captions, you can hear Pupcake cry "Help" when he slides down the muddy hill after the vine snaps. Edit
    • MAJOR CONTINUITY ERROR! How could Strawberry Shortcake know Honey Pie and the other kids before she owned Pupcake when she only just met them in Meet Strawberry Shortcake, during which she already owned the dog? Edit

    • Featured songs: "I Love Custard" and "That Doggone Dog". Edit
    • Apple Dumplin' doesn't appear in this episode because she was obviously either not born yet, just born, or still an infant at the time. This would be Huckleberry Pie's first appearance without the token toddler. Edit
