  • Presenting Raspberry Torte and Lemon Meringue in their first 2-D appearances.

The gang is back for more. Strawberry Shortcake is observing the strawberry buds one day with her pets and feels inspired to introduce an annual festival celebrating it. Naturally, everybody's getting in on a piece of the action much to Custard's doubt: "I think something bad'll happen like it always does". Good point. Poor Chocolate and Marmalade are exhausted. Pat-pat-patooey! Ginger Snap's turned her pet chipmunk into a living pencil sharpener; all the lead he must ingest. Yuck. Marmalade...or is it ORANGE Marmalade?...well, she's not having it any easier. Oh, the interior of Orange Blossom's house gets shown again. Wonderful.

Raspberry Torte takes center stage in her and Lemon Meringue's first 2-D appearances outside of Sweet Dreams. The former isn't overprotective of the latter this time, and the two are still friends though not as clingy toward each other. Angel Cake suggests that a fancy formal tea party be made part of what Strawberry Shortcake rightly dubs the Berry Blossom Festival. However, acting snooty doesn't register with Raspberry Torte. shengonguwu3000 told me beforehand that she behaves as rudely as another problem child I've mentioned too many times already. Also, the swap from Greer McKain to Haley Hyden-Soffer provides the child a more gruff voice. I don't understand these constant voice actor changes, but oh well.

Strawberry Shortcake suggests putting on two parties to handle the problem: one without manners, and one with. What's two parties gonna prove, Raspberry Torte wonders? The no-manners one clearly shows that problem children like her - as my younger brother would say - can dish it out, but not take it. LOL; the others are such good actors. And wouldn't one know it, Custard's also in on the trick. Did I mention the eye color changes occurring throughout? (Animation errors, of course.)

This episode looks to me like an inverse of The Costume Party. Raspberry Torte and Angel Cake have similar houses. Moods and minds change quickly as Strawberry Shortcake tutors the repellent one about table etiquette: elbows off the table, not talking with one's mouth full, etc. I'm surprised she didn't also throw in pinkie extension. And all works out in the end. Gotta hand it to the title character: She gambles a lot because she sees good will in everyone around her. But that's just the way false protagonists can be. Interesting how a few recent songs have sounded similar to others.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Strawberry Shortcake: First thing you do when you sit down, before anything else, is put your napkin on your lap.
Raspberry Torte: (grabs napkin) Like this? (puts napkin on lap) I don't tuck it in my shirt like a bib?
Strawberry Shortcake: (giggles) Only if you're eating lobster.

    • Strawberry Shortcake: The best part of the party
Is not a thing you buy
The best part of the party
Isn't ice cream, cake, or pie
      Though treats may be tasty
      No party's complete
      Without friends with yummy manners
      Who make parties extra sweet

Strawberry Shortcake, Ginger Snap, Orange Blossom, Angel Cake, Blueberry Muffin, Raspberry Torte, & Lemon Meringue: Yeah, pass the fun
      SS: Pass the fun
      All: Pass the fun
SS: Everyone, please be my friend
      All: Thanks, be mine too
And a "good manners" party to you

RT: I'll take some tea and crumpets
And some sugar if I may
But if there is one thing to dump
It's old bad manners, I'd say
'Cause I tried two different parties
      And I finally understood
That good manners make a good "good manners" party
      Extra good

      Others: Yeah, pass the fun
      RT: Pass the fun
      Others: Pass the fun
      RT: Everyone
      Others: Please be my friend
      RT: Thanks, be mine too
All: And a "good manners" party to you

      Others: Pass the fun
      RT: It's my pleasure
      Others: Pass the fun
      RT: My friends I treasure
      All: Pass the fun

    • Raspberry Torte: My friends are highfalutin'
      And hoity-toity too
      But there is no disputin'
      That dainty just won't do
Some tell ya "Mind your manners"
      But here's what I believe
If you're supposed to use a napkin
Then why d'you have a sleeve

Oh, man, oh, man, oh, manners
      What's the great big deal
I tell ya, manners don't matter
As much as what you feel
Oh, man, oh, man, oh, manners
      Manners are no fun
      'Cause manners are like rules
      It's better to have none

And if I feel like slurpin'
      Well, who's it gonna hurt
      Or I gobble up dinner
      But first, I have dessert
And what's with "please" and "thank you"
      It's faster just to take
      Oh, people who have manners
Are just phony and so fake

Oh, man, oh, man, oh, manners
      What's the great big deal
Do they make the day go better
Do they make a tastier meal
No, I'd rather think of manners
As a job that others do
      Then it's just like everyone
      Is working just for you

Strawberry Shortcake, Ginger Snap, Orange Blossom, Angel Cake, Blueberry Muffin, & Lemon Meringue: Mind your manners

RT: I'll reach across the table
      Won't even try to share
I'll eat with just my fingers
      I'll stand up in chair
And if that makes 'em angry
      That's how it's gonna be
'Cause the only one I care about
      Is me, myself, and me

Oh, man, oh, man, oh, manners
      What's the great big deal
I mean my mean old manners
      Are me just bein' real
Oh, man, oh, man, oh, manners
They act like I'm not grown
And if they don't like my manners
Then, man, me and my manners
      Will be better off alone

    • Ginger Snap: This is going to be the greatest thing ever! Pencil, please. (gets another pencil) Don't you think, huh, Chocolate? It's going to have lights. Pencil, please. (receives previous pencil) A rotating platform rises up here. Pencil. (third switch) It turns up here, and all these little lights will blink like crazy. Pencil, please.

    • Custard: (about the Berry Blossom Festival) Me, I think something'll go wrong like it always does.
