Highlight below for a SPOILER:
This is the second consecutive episode in which one of Jesse's good friends dies.
This episode introduces the character of Rachel Adams (Jeannie Wilson) who is the head of the PR department where Jesse works. In the pilot, the PR department was run by Sandy McCoy (Jayne Modean).
Nitpick: In the pilot, Norman says Jesse should use a cane and wear a device on his knee so that it looks like he's limping. Yet in this episode he is hopping around like nothing is wrong. Wouldn't other people notice that his knee has suddenly healed?
Opening speech:
This is Jesse Mach, an ex-motorcycle cop injured in the line of duty, now a police troubleshooter. He's been recruited for a top secret government mission to ride Street Hawk, an all-terrain attack motorcycle designed to fight urban crime, capable of incredible speeds up to 300 miles an hour, and immense firepower. Only one man, federal agent Norman Tuttle, knows Jesse Mach's true identity. The man, the machine -- Street Hawk.
Tangerine Dream was responsible for most of the music heard in the series. In this episode we hear their electronic versions of Bruce Springsteen's Dancing in the Dark and The Eagles' Desperado.
Guest star Robert Lipton (Burton Levine) and Rex Smith have both starred in As The World Turns but not during same time periods. Lipton played Dr. Jeff Ward in 1978-1984 and Smith would later star as Darryl Crawford in 1991-1993.
Guest star George Clooney would later become known as the charming Dr. Doug Ross on ER. He has also made a successful movie career.
There is a similarity to the canal chase scene in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Perhaps director James Cameron was a fan of Street Hawk?
Jesse: (as he takes Norman roller skating) Exploring new territories, boldly go in places no engineer has ever gone before...
This is a reference to (and Jesse's parody of) the opening spiel in Star Trek, "...to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilization, to boldly go where no man has gone before."
