  • Jesse grows up... and gets dumped.

This episode offers a break from the crime-of-the-week routine of the previous episodes. The usual cheesy plot is still there but more emphasis is placed on Jesse's character and his past.

In the previous episodes, Jesse was portrayed as a regular ladies' man, innocent enough to fit the prime time 80's TV. In this episode, however, he is clearly still not over his ex-girlfriend Lilli (Shelagh McLeod), and it is obvious from the character interactions between the two from the very first scene. The acting is actually not that bad for a change. ;)

More tension is created when Jesse announces to Norman that he has decided to quit as the Street Hawk. The resolution comes hardly as a surprise, however, since Jesse quitting would have meant the end for the series. Not that it wouldn't have been a bad decision, either. ;)

All in all, clearly the best episode so far. Chinatown offers a nice spice to the backdrop of this week's heist. Jesse finally realizing that Norman is his friend, not just a work buddy, offers some lightness to the otherwise serious ending. But it'll be interesting to see if Jesse will lapse into his old ways again in the next episode.
