SENIORS DISCOUNTED NEWS

... NBC has canceled Betty White's Off Their Rockers after two seasons. The series featured senior citizens playing hidden-camera pranks on unsuspecting whippersnappers and pretty much sums up NBC. Imagine being the person who had to tell Betty White, America's sweetheart, that her show was canceled. You'd probably go home right after and immediately put a shotgun in your mouth. [THR]

BUSINESS TIME

... NBC is really banking on game shows, which jibes with its stress on bland, "broad" television. With the debuts of The Million Second Quiz and Hollywood Game Night already locked, NBC has added Wall of Fame with a straight-to-series order of eight one-hour episodes. There's a Hollywood Squares element to Wall of Fame, with teams of families answering pop-culture trivia and predicting which members of a celebrity panel also answered questions correctly. NBC has not announced a premiere date for the series, but hopefully the network will leave enough time to reanimate the corpse of Charles Nelson Reilly. [NBC via press release]

... Netflix is in talks to do a second season of Arrested Development, obviously. [Variety]

... Probably the 156th most exciting thing about Comic-Con is figuring out what shows will be on the thousands of free oversized bags handed out to attendees. This year, Warner Bros. TV will once again sponsor the enormous carryalls, and finding their way onto them will be Arrow, The Big Bang Theory, The Following, Revolution, Supernatural, Teen Titans Go!, and The Vampire Diaries. But this year, the bags will double as backpacks AND feature a detachable cape. Comic-Con: the only place where you can get beaten up for NOT wearing a cape. [WBTV via press release]

... CBS leads the nominations for the News and Documentary Emmy Awards. The network garnered 46 nods, with 60 Minutes out front with 24 nominations, followed by nine nominations for CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley and seven for CBS This Morning. The 34th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented on October 1. I know, I can't wait either! [CBS via press release]

... The two-hour finale for NBC's America's Got Talent will air on September 18 from 9pm to 11pm, where America's most-talented, and therefore the world's most-talented, person will be announced. [NBC via press release]

... Cinemax has slapped a date on the third-season premiere of Strike Back. Counterterrorist operatives Stonebridge and Scott will be back to blow sh*t up on August 9 at 10pm. [Cinemax via press release]

... Nickelodeon has ordered 20 more episodes of Sam & Cat, its number-one comedy. The live-action spin-off series follows a pair of girls from iCarly and Victorious who start a babysitting service and I bet it's funnier than Whitney. [Nickelodeon via press release]

CASTING NEWS

... Parks and Recreation will welcome a few House of Lies stars to its upcoming season, including one Ms. Kristen Bell. Bell and Ben Schwartz have each reserved guest appearances, with Bell playing a council woman who becomes Leslie Knope's nemesis, and Schwartz reprising his role as the cocky sleazeball Jean-Ralphio. No word on when they'll appear or whether they'll appear together or whether Don Cheadle will show up, too. Side note: You know what's still really weird? Parks and Recreation is NBC's only returning comedy. [THR]

... Former American Idol contestant and threat to conservative America Adam Lambert has been cast on Glee. Sounds about right, I guess. [Ryan Murphy's Twitter]

... Political Animals star Carla Gugino will star in the Fox limited series miniseries Wayward Pines from producer M. Night Shyamalan. The bizarre 10-episode thriller stars Matt Dillon as a secret service agent who ends up in the small town of Wayward Pines, Idaho, to investigate the disappearance of two fellow officers. But things get weird. Like, Shyamalan weird. Gugino will play the ex-partner of Dillon's character who lives in the town. No timetable has been set for Wayward Pines' debut. [THR]
