A Conversation on Black Masculinity

Full Episode: A Conversation on Black Masculinity

Full Episode Summary

An exploration on the meaning of "black masculinity". How have the stereotypes changed or remained the same? For example, at one time, "acting white" usually meant effeminate; today, "acting white" can mean the path to the US Presidency. Last weekend, an honor roll eighth grader who was thought by many to have a bright future was shot to death on a Roxbury basketball court. In an environment of promise and peril, what does "black masculinity" mean to the current and coming generations of young black men? Our panel: Callie Crossley, host of The Callie Crossley Show on WGBH Radio; Latoyia Edwards, anchor, New England Cable News; Peter Roby, Athletic Director, Northeastern University; C. Shawn McGuffey, assistant professor of sociology, Boston College; and Rev. Brandon Crowley, Myrtle Street Baptist Church, Newton, MA.moreless
