were the ratings that bad? obviously the show wasn't as good as the first season, but almost every show has a sophomore slump in their second year. it was still highly watchable and i don't understand why they can't just bring it back every summer as a summer show!

The show i think fit great in the summer. Last fall i think they aired the show in the fall and it did not work out to good i think.

Yeah the ratings were terrible for season 2 but excellent in season 1 when it was aired in the Summer.

I still say this show should air during the summer. Heck the shows name is Summerland. IT fits.

Because TV networks want shows with high Nielsen ratings.
Summerland did pretty poorly with only about 2 million viewers.

The higher the Nielsen ratings, the more $$$ a TV network can get from advertising fees from sponsors and advertisers who want to run their commercials during the show’s broadcast.

If the network does not earn enough profit from the TV show’s advertising fees, then the network won't be able to pay for the cost and expense of producing the show, which means the TV network will CANCEL the show to SAVE money!

A old show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer lasted for 7 years because it could get a least 5-6 million viewers per episode.

The final episodes actually aired during summer, but it still only scored 1.5-2 million viewers.

It is doubtful that the show will come back, especially since Lori Loughlin will be starring in a new TV show on ABC called "In Case of Emergency."

The canceled show "Summerland" can't continue without her, especially since she is one of the main stars of the show!

It was cancelled because of the ratings in the second season.  the ratings in season one were great but after they moved from Mondays to Tuesdays the ratings just dropped.  the only reason they showed 5 extra episodes was to see if the ratings would go up but they didn't so they cancelled the show.

Not sure if its true but heres the REAL reason (or so i heard) on why it got cancelled. They switched times and peeple got confused on when it came on. No one watched it and it was cancelled...simple as that.

I live in Nava Scotia and where i live it came back on the air this summer, they are repetes, but at least it is not totally off the air now. I do agree that the first season was WAY better that the second one but it is still good. They can't make any new episodes because everyone's alot older now. I mean Kay Panabaker is 16 and thats how old Jesse McCartney weas when it was on. Lori Loughin is in a different TV series now and Zac Efron is really busy with all the movies he is going to be in. I do enjoy the repetes because i didn't get to watch all the episodes. If they did start making new ones it would be confusing because everyone is alot older,

I'm asking myself that every day. One of my favourite show from my favourite producers. Why did they cancel it? It was great show for summer. Well, maybe ratings were horibble because the 2nd season aired in fall.
