  • So this is why the Rockies are so far below expectations; well, besides Ubaldo Jimenez being so bad compared to last year

I'm guessing this game was a microcosm of the Rockies season: no timely hits, stranded base runners, mediocre starting pitching and a bullpen unable to get a key out. That would do it for most teams.

The Rockies do have talent and I'm sure will get better over time, but I can't see one of those 16-2 runs to steal a playoff spot this year.

The Cardinals did not look like a team heading for a division title. They're five games out and very inconsistent. It's hard to see them putting together an 8-2 run, or something like that, while the Brewers go 2-8 and I think the wild card isn't happening either as the Braves are too good.

It's always nice to see a Sunday Night game, but this one was pretty ordinary.moreless

No New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox this week, but it was almost as long as one of those games. When the third inning ends at 9:30, yeah, you know the game is pretty slow-moving.

I thought that the St. Louis Cardinals trading for Edwin Jackson was a mistake, but he didn't do that bad tonight. He gave up two quick runs, but was fine after that. Meanwhile, the Colorado Rockies showed why they will always be "in the mix" but will either come close to missing out on the postseason or make it but get swept out every single year.

Solid game tonight, but this show really runs too long. You look up at the clock and your whole Sunday night is gone.moreless

    • Colorado Manager Jim Tracy: The question that I'm trying to make sense out of even more so is those opportunities offensively that have escaped us, where you've got multiple runners and you come away with nothing. You've got people coming up there that you would absolutely want up there in those kinds of scenarios.

    • Troy Tulowitzki: Sometimes it doesn't go your way, it's just kind of how it's been. We haven't gotten that big hit when needed but I love to be up in that situation. Sometimes you come through and sometimes you don't.

    • (on striking struck out Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton with the bases loaded in the seventh)
Octavio Dotel: I don't want to give credit to those guys. I know they're good but I feel in my mind that I'm good and I can do it.
