  • Ugh (that's too short of a title but it's all I've got)

Well, that was the ugliest game I've seen in a while. Five errors, atrocious baserunning, eight total walks, eight unearned runs and a hit batter thrown in for good measure. And at a time of exactly 3:00, it dragged on far too long.

Clayton Kershaw was good enough to salvage the final game of this four game series. He certainly had to work much harder because of the shoddy defense behind him. But, he's the Dodgers ace and the has to be your stopper. Having lost six in a row (a stunning five by shutout) and fallen out of first place, which they comfortably held for almost the entire season, they had to find a way to win this game and they did. It turned out that the keys was the Mets' generosity.

Anyway, enough of that. The broadcasting trio is doing better and they have found a rhythm. I think Terry Francona is settling into his job nicely. Talking about the All-Star game and showing the rosters was a nice add to the telecast.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Final Score:
      New York Mets 3
      Los Angeles Dodgers 8

    • The Los Angeles Dodgers entered this game mired in a team batting slump of historical proportions. They had been shutout in five of the previous six games, becoming only the fourth team since 1920 to do so. The last was the 1992 Chicago Cubs. They had not scored in 56 of their last 57 innings and had not held a lead for 61 conductive innings, dating back to the previous Sunday.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • (on two third inning throwing errors by shortstop Dee Gordon that gave the Mets two unearned runs)
Clayton Kershaw: Dee knows everybody in this team has his back, and he bounced back awesome - the way he came back with a couple of hits and a couple of stolen bases to get us going offensively. That's what you do after you make some mistakes. You just put your head down and keep playing. Dee showed a lot of character tonight.

    • Mike Nickeas: I thought Dillon (Gee) had good stuff. Unfortunately, he's kind of been the guy on our staff that has been a little unlucky. We haven't played tremendous defense behind him and we haven't scored a ton of runs when he's been out there. But I think he's thrown much better than what his won-lost record shows. And if he keeps doing that, it'll all even out for him in the end.

    • Clayton Kershaw: It was a great game for us, to bust out of our losing streak like that. We needed to score some runs, and we took advantage of their mistakes. We went through a rough patch, and hopefully tonight kind of broke us out of it.
