I was skeptical when he was signed, but the Mike Napoli acquisition continues to be a wise one for Boston. He has come through with big hits countless times this year, and had another one tonight with the walk-off homer.

This game ended at 12:53. It was fun, but that's how you kill your sleep for the evening.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Mike Napoli: I had a chance to win it in the eighth - to put a run across with a sac fly. That's what is so great about this game, you always get another chance. You've just got to keep going. You can't do anything about it.

    • New York Manager Joe Girardi: We battled back and gave ourselves an opportunity to win that game. It's a shame we had to lose in extra innings.

New York Manager Joe Girardi: It's strange. He has been so good for so long, it's kind of strange. He was missing with the fastballs. I didn't think he had good command of it and left balls up. He has to get straightened out, that's the bottom line.

    • CC Sabathia: We scored seven runs — not being able to win that game is unacceptable. I sucked. I wish I had an excuse. It sucks, it's embarrassing. I will try and work through it and figure out how to stop hurting the team and start helping.
