  • Terrific Game!

I thoroughly enjoyed this game. Either side could have won it, but the Cubs made a few small mistakes that good teams do not make and let this one slip away. The Cardinals had a lot of changes too. After all, when you get 15 hits and four walks, you really should score more than four runs, but Ryan Dempster gave a gritty pitching performance and hung in there for seven solid innings and gave his team a chance to win. Chris Carpenter did the same.

I can't see the Cubs making a run and the Cardinals really should be at least five games ahead of the Reds with their talent, buy they're not. It will be an interesting race in the Central and in all divisions this year.

I'm not a Bobby Valentine fan and it will be nice to have Jon and Joe back next week.moreless

A solid game on Sunday Night Baseball here. Last season on NHL on NBC almost every game went to overtime and this season on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball a lot of games seem to be going into extra innings. As these two struggling teams went to extra frames, you could see the desperation in their eyes. The Chicago Cubs are still very much alive if they can put together a run and the St. Louis Cardinals should be performing a lot better than they already are.

Albert, what has happened to you, though? It is sad that the real "Machine" these days might be Sasha Vujacic and not you.moreless

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Derrek Lee: It was a great homestand. It would have been great to get this win and really set off the homestand. It didn't happen.

    • St. Louis Manager Tony LaRussa: Today it was a great effort, so it was a great game to win, and if we'd lost that one, it would have been a tough one to take.
