  • An OK ballgame between two teams that don't look like they're going anywhere this year. Love the fans wearing Albert Pujols Chicago Cub jerseys!

I can't think of much to say about this game. Given that Chicago won the first two games of the series, a St. Louis win was a good bet, especially given the pitching matchup. Sure enough, Rodrigo Lopez gave up four home runs on dour pitches right in the middle of the plate. Some were high and other low, but each was down the middle. The pitch to Pujols was dead center in the middle of K-Zone. I figured it was gone the moment K-Zone lit up. Oops.

It was a good addition to the show to have Cub Chairman Jim Ricketts on air and I really liked the two man booth, although my preference would be Dan and Orel. I just prefer a two-man booth. Look at Sunday Night Football - it works well there and with a strong enough analyst, which I think Orel is,m it would work well here too.moreless

This game was just on the air a few episodes ago, but for some reason ESPN chose to air it again. Why? Who knows, you'll have to take that up with them because it certainly was not necessary. I would like to see the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs both return to prominence, but I also know that I have to be realistic and I just do not know if I see that happening anytime soon based on how they have been playing as of late.

Not a terrible game, but let's be honest, the game was far from riveting. Easy pick for me that the Cardinals would win and probably for most of America.moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (3)

    • St. Louis Manager Tony La Russa: It means is you survive and survive means you're still alive. That's what we have going. We're still alive. We just have to string together some more wins than what we did.
      (on starter Jake Westbrook)
St. Louis Manager Tony La Russa:I thought he came up big. He knew what was at stake here. So he gave us a lift. He went out there and gave us exactly what we needed.

    • (on catcher Yadier Molina, who homered twice)
Albert Pujols: Yadier has been the same hitter since he came up in 2004. When a guy doesn't strike out and puts the ball in play a lot like he does, there's a pretty good chance that the guy is going to be a pretty good hitter.

    • Albert Pujols: A big win, feels good. I don't know what it is, over the last two or three road trips, we haven't started our road trips the way we wanted to. But it feels good to get a win tonight.
