  • Sigh... Oh for a really good ballgame.

    7.0
It's a ballgame, so it gets 7/10. The announcing team meshed well and while he's no Jon Miller, Canada's Dan Shulman is a top notch play-by-play man. Joe and Steve are also finding a way to work harmoniously and the laughs in the booth were more memorable that the ball game, which is unfortunate.

I can't think of anything noteworthy about this ballgame. It's very rare that I find myself watching baseball and thinking that I've been sitting there forever and it's only the fourth inning, but this game had that effect on me. The Rays did score two runs without the benefit of a hit. They did it with a hit batsman, a walk, a double steal, a sacrifice fly and a throwing error. It's not something that you see too often, nor would you want to. :)

Rangers' starter Scott Feldman raised his record to 7-2 with six innings and 105 pitches of hard work. Feldman is an unusual story in that his first three appearances of the season were in relief and he got knocked around to the tune of a 12.15 ERA. This was his 14th start and he has lowered his ERA to 3.91, which is very good by AL standards.

I have to agree with my fellow reviewer that most of the games this have been unmemorable.moreless
  • Booooring.

    5.0
Like I stated in my review for MLB Network's Saturday Night Baseball clash between the Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays these two teams just do not match up in a way that will lead to exciting baseball.

The Tampa Bay Rays are an exciting, fresh, young baseball and the Texas Rangers do have history and a legitimate shot at having a special season this year, but unfortunately not special enough for me to care.

Sorry about all these negative nancy reviews I have been writing recently (excluding last week's Mets vs. Yankees game) but these games are just offering little to nothing of note.moreless

    • (on starter Matt Garza)
Rays Manager Joe Maddon: He was just off. His fastball command wasn't what it normally is.

    • Rangers' Scott Feldman: I kind of realized that I wasn't getting hit around, that I was just trying to be too fine early in the game and missing with my pitches just off the plate. I gave up two runs there [3rd inning], but I was able to limit the damage.

    • Rangers' Michael Young: Our goal all along has been to be a versatile offense and score runs in different ways; do what the other team allows us to do. It's tough ... to have to go out there and bang your way to big innings, so for us to manufacture a few runs and find a way to push across some runs was a good sign.
