Supercarrier

Show Summary

Supercarrier was a documentary film made by National Geographic, which aired on November 27, 2007 on the National Geographic Channel. Also known as "Supercarrier: USS Ronald Reagan, " this documentary followed activities three weeks in the life of the U.S aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. The documentary was filmed during the carrier's deployment of January, 2007, as part of President Bush's surge strategy to contain the situation in Iraq. National Geographic edited down over 150 hours of high quality color footage to produce a two hour film. As is typical for National Geographic documentaries, Supercarrier was released to almost universal critical acclaim. The filming was carried out with the full cooperation of the U.S Navy, who offered almost unfettered access to the two camera crews who worked on the project. For three weeks, the National Geographic crew documented the crew of the USS Reagan as they worked to ready one of the largest, most sophisticated warships in the world.
