- According to Evan Dorkins, this episode's writer and Livewire co-creator, Leslie Willis's take on Superman was originally suppose to have more backing it up. One of the earlier proposals for the animated series featured more public fear and mistrust of the alien Superman. That effect is lost here, in a series where Superman is generally well-liked and even beloved by the people.

- The villainess Livewire was created purposely for this show. The character was later transferred into the DC Comics continuity, much like Harley Quinn from Batman: The Animated Series.
