  • Any episode where Superman teams up with a gruff edgy biker alien has to be good.

    8.7
I like this epiosde and after all these years this episode still stands out. Why? The reason is Superman is seen here using more of his wits than any other episode. He doesn't have super powers in this episode and so he's forced to work side by side with someone he really doesn't like. Lobo. However he learns in this episode that all people aren't as bad as they seem. Character devolpment? Yes.moreless
  • Great episode following up the introduction of a new character: Bad Boy Biker Lobo.

    8.8
The Collector, an alien who preserves the last of species, has taken Supes (the last Kryptonian) and Lobo (the last Czarnian) for his collection. The two mismatched allies have to team up for a prison break. The Collector turns out to be a formidable jailer, especially since Supes has been stripped of his powers and Lobo keeps getting juiced with knockout gas. And it doesn\'t help that a rival team of bounty hunters are after Lobo\'s prisoner. Supes has to get clever and THINK his way out of problems that he would usually smash through. The result is a well written, likeable episode which reveals Supes\' willingness to ally himself with the reprobate Lobo, the lesser of his two enemies, without compromising his principles. Being forced to make choices helps to deepen the character from his familiar Blue Boy Scout role.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • During the first few airings of the episode, Lobo calls Superman a rank-fragging geekwad. Toon Disney, now Disney XD, removed this insult when the episode was aired on the channel.

    • Lobo: The Main Man's word is his bond, man. (after which he slugs Superman)

For those people who wonder about that, Lobo only said that his word was his bond. He never actually gave Superman his word.

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Lobo: Sqweek old buddy, you're about to witness my good deed for this century.
Sqweek: You're gonna let me go?
      Lobo: Huh, funny.

    • Lobo: (regarding the Preserver's robot drones) If they drag us back in those cages, they'll probably strap our butts to the floor with razor wire! Not that it ain't a pleasurable way to perk up an otherwise ho-hum evening, but I do happen to have that prisoner to deliver.

    • Lobo: Hey, blue? Thanks. (punches Superman)
      Superman: What was that for?
Lobo: Didn't want you to think I was goin' soft on ya.

    • Gnaww: We followed your bike's ion trail. It was almost as strong as your breath!
Lobo: (ducking out of hiding) Hey!! Watch what you say about my hog! (gets shot in the face)

    • (Superman and Lobo hiding from robots' laser fire)
Superman: One of us needs to create a diversion and draw their fire.
Lobo: (shoving Superman out in front of the robots) Eeee...lected!
      Superman: Hey!

    • (Superman and Lobo are hiding from rival bounty hunters)
      Superman: Friends of yours?
      Lobo: My bridge club.

    • Preserver: (to Lobo) As much as I dislike personal involvement, you leave me no choice. Get back in your enclosure immediately.
Lobo: Who's gonna make me? (Preserver starts changing into larger, more savage being) I'm gonna have to stop saying that.

    • Lobo: You ain't gonna bail without your old pal Lobo, are ya?
Superman: If any creature in the galaxy deserves to be locked up, it's you.

    • Lobo: The Main Man's word it's his bond, man.

    • Lobo: (about Superman) I guess that boy is just a sucker for hard luck cases...

    • Preserver: How could I ever think trash like you was worth saving?
Lobo: I got a cute smile?

  • NOTES (1)

    • Sherman Howard was originally going to play Lex Luthor for the series, but the producers liked Clancy Brown's performance better. When it came time to cast Batman Beyond, Howard was cast as the very Lex Luthor-esque villain Derek Powers.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • KISS

Lobo has a "KIZZ" poster in his enclosure wall. This is a pun on the 1970s heavy metal band "KISS," whose members wear make-up that make them look very much like Lobo.
