Yeah, Evangelion's manga was stretched out for years, despite being smaller than the anime, and only after The End of Evangelion did Sadamoto feel truly free. Which explains why his Kaoru is so much less likable than Anno's.

Dude, you keep bringing Evangelion so often that now I feel forced to watch it I just checked it, it has only 26 episodes, so I'll watch it soon so I can understand your plenty references to it
Good then you can translate for me becasue I never understand what all that is about.

Deal! As soon as I watch it I'll let you know what it's about

I've just been reading the manga recently again.

What I was getting at, though, was that a comic book takes longer, and staying true to it is kinda tough. The ultimate decision was two separate canons, but Sadamoto didn't want to give anything away.

So it's relevant. Every comic has this.

Except ones where the comic is the original medium. Then you get Dragonball Z-style battles wherein there's a lot of padding.

    Oh yeah that makes sense.

The comics were supposed to be with the series but I guess time makes fools of us all as the series had to make changes to accomidate real life issues and the comics where already out or were too far along to change.

The biggest issue with the comcis (to me) is the whole thing about Mary's family. In the comcis that uncle they've talked about on the show is shown and it's clear he has no idea what's going on and ends being killed by a hellhound. Would like to see some attempt to reconcile the two in some medium but that probably won't happen.

Actually, Naruto inspired Sadamoto's second viewing of angels in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Of course, it was after the whole Rinji thing was brought up, but hey, he was likened to Kaoru in the first installment.

I think I'll try and impersonate you:

Well, what I had INITIALLY written wasn't meant as a RIDICULE but a funny thing to poin tout I understood LITTLE about thoes animes, and if you DON'T like my sentence, then you don't READ it. Easy as that.

Well they were SUPPOSED to until they made so many mistakes and the show started introducing elements that contradicted the already published comcis (like Mary and her family being hunters).

It's hard to do a comic AND a running show at the same time and have them jibe perfectly even just mini-series that only run from time to time.

Yeah thats true it happens alot with comics and books for shows, they eventually dont line-up. slightly off-topic, but I wouldn't be surprised SN continues in comic form given the success of Buffy, Angel and Charmed.

Oh, another thing to expect in the anime: Expect a lot of characters to talk like they're from Kansai. The Kansai dialect tends to be associated with a type of "backwardness", even though Osaka and Kyoto are in Kansai. In anime, characters from Kansai are often dubbed as having Southern accents.

Should I say that I have no idea how Kansai dialect sounds like or is it taken for granted?

I applaud the amount of information you possess, though!

    Other anime tropes:

108 - represents perfection. Sometimes it's used for scary reasons.

Occidental otaku - An otaku is a nerd. The occidental variant is an American who is fascinated with Japan. Despite being an obvious way of telling American fans "you suck", this character is quite popular in America.

Americans hate Tingle / Germans love David Hasselhoff - Characters tend to have a local love or hate. The Japanese hate Asuka, but Americans love her. The trope namers, by the way, are Legend of Zelda and SNL.

Ainu are ancient - Practically all indigenous people and ancient cultures are given Ainu motifs. If you're familiar with Ainu or Jomon designs, you know what you're looking for. The most typical one is the emphasis on right angles and some designs that are also typical of the Pacific Northwest.

(On this topic, the Japanese have historically viewed themselves as ethnically homogeneous. This change has been very recent, like in the last decade or so.)

Macekre - I doubt this will happen with Supernatural. Most macekre is with children's shows, though RoboTech (which named the tendencies; Carl Macek combined three unrelated series together to make RoboTech, which is the rare good use of this trope) wasn't meant for kids. Saban was the worst about this: Their version of Sailor Moon (eventually dubbed by DIC, which just made lesbian lovers into cousins) had a girl in a wheelchair that flies through space, and the Sailor Senshi were given a Star Destroyer for some reason. Their version of Kamen Rider has a prince living with an Earth family and a pet alien of some type; Power Rangers (their version of Super Sentai) was still pretty good, though, if cheesy. These days, though, the worst is 4kids; while their Shaman King and Pokémon are pretty good, the same cannot be said of...anything else they made.

Oh yes, how to recognize Kansai-ben (or rather, Osaka-ben). Note that Kyoto-ben is softer and tends to be reserved for females.

Osaka-ben, however, used to be associated with villains and "slow" characters. Anyway, easy signs of a character speaking Kansai-ben:

use of uchi instead of atashi

replacement of desu or da with ya (or in Kyoto-ben, dosu)

use of -hen instead of -nai

use of aho instead of baka; baka is considered more insulting

    -haru instead of -masu

"se ye naa" instead of"sou da ne"

    meccha instead of tottemo

    A special note about e: In Kansai-ben, e is rendered a bit more like /ɪ/ or /ə/ instead of /ɛ/ or /e/

Well I saw lats week the english dub for the first two episodes and to be honest, I liked them. First episode has some small issues as it time skips a bt, but more due to the length of the episode. Second, well it's one of my favorite episodes for the series period, and favorite none main arc epiosde, and I felt they did a decent job on it, a few things missing I noticed, but still kept the heart of it, I'm looking forward to see what they do with the rest.

What episodes did they start with. I presume the first one was the first episode of season one. What about the second episode? It's not "Windego" is it?
