A teenage couple, Krissy and Aidan, park in a makeout spot to kiss. A blue van pulls up nearby and someone ducks out and starts moving around the van. Aidan assures Krissy that it's nothing, but shadows keep moving around the car and the trunk flies open. Aidan tries to start the car but the engine won't start, and he panics and runs away. A vampire shatters the passenger window and pulls Krissy out... and Aidan comes up behind him and decapitates it. Another girl, Josephine Barnes, arrives with her crossbow, and Krissy irritably tells her friends that the next time one of them can be the bait. Aidan checks the head and tells them that it's the vampire he was looking for, and that now they have two more to go.
Sam and Dean arrive in town and meet with the local sheriff about the recent murder of two women whose throats were ripped open. As they pull up to the station, Dean suggests that Sam might want to hang back because of his illness brought on by the trials. Sam says that he's fine and asks Dean if he wants to talk about how Castiel beat him to the point of death. When Dean mocks his brother, Sam gives it up and they go inside. The brothers pose as FBI agents and the sheriff explains that the two victims were drained of the blood, and that they have security footage from the makeout spot. He runs the decapitation for the Winchesters and admits that by the time the police got there, all of the evidence was cleaned up.
Dean freezes and magnified the image and recognizes the girl, Krissy. He tells the sheriff that the Feds are taking over and to hand over all their evidence. Outside, Dean tells Sam that the girl is Krissy Chambers, the daughter of the hunter the met a year ago. Krissy's father was going to retire but apparently something has gone wrong, so they set out to find her.
Krissy checks in at a hotel, paying cash and bribing the hotel clerk to keep silent. She goes up to the room with Aidan, who is clearly interested in her and doesn't believe that she has a boyfriend in Canada. Josephine arrive and they check the surveillance footage from the ATM machine at the hotel, which shows a second vampire going in and checking into Room 215. Aidan puts on a camera headset and he and Josephine go to the room while Krissy monitors the video feed on her laptop.
As Aidan picks the lock on the vampire's door, Sam and Dean pick the lock on Krissy's room. She draws on them until she realizes who they are, and tells them that she doesn't need their help. Krissy wonders how they found her and Dean explains that they bribed the clerks at the only two hotels that take cash. When he wonders where her father is, Krissy explains that he's dead. She tells the brothers that her and her people have got it and tells them to get out. Dean wonders what they're doing and Krissy explains that they're hunting down a vampire.
When Aidan and Josephine enter the hotel room, they find a woman tied to the bed. The vampire leaps at them from out of the shadows just as Dean, Sam, and Krissy arrive. After a brief struggle, the vampire leaps out the window and Josephine tends to the victim while the others run out to the street. Krissy shoots the vampire in the leg with darts filled with dead man's blood, and Dean prepares to kill it. However, Josephine catches up to them and says that he's hers because he killed her family three months ago. The vampire claims that it has no idea what she's talking about and begs for its life, but Josephine decapitates him.
As things settle down, Dean draws Krissy off to the side and demands an explanation. She tells him that her father gave up hunting and they had a normal life for a while, but then a vampire found and killed him. The same nest of vampires killed Josephine's and Aidan's families and the three of them have joined up to hunt the killers down. Dean confirms that Krissy has an aunt in Cincinnati and says that she's going there, but Krissy says that her mentor, Victor Rogers, will object. Dean points out that they screwed up with the surveillance camera but Krissy insist that they did the right thing and that maybe its time to take the existence of monsters public.
When Dean goes back to the Impala, Sam tells him that Aidan and Josephine told him about Victor. He remembers meeting a Victor in Spokane during a hunt and they decide to talk to him. The brothers drive to the house where the three teenagers are staying and are surprised to discover that it's a normal suburban home. When everyone goes inside, Victor remembers the Winchesters and welcomes them in, and then sends the kids to do their chores, study for their school tests, and fill out reports. He offers the Winchesters a drink and explains that he's just trying to give the teenagers a normal life while training them to be better hunters then he and the Winchesters are. The brothers wonder what he means and Victor explains that most hunters have mental issues, including Martin, Garth, and Bobby. Dean takes offense but Victor says that the teenagers he's found are the best and once they avenge their families, they'll become better hunters than any of them.
Sam and Dean go to the Impala and Sam admits that Victor's plan seems to be working. Dean doesn't buy that any hunter can have a normal life and suggests that they hunt down and kill the vampires themselves to keep the teenagers out of danger. He tells Sam to watch the house while he checks with the woman, Connie, who was tied up at the hotel. As Dean drives off, a man wearing a hoodie watches them from a blue van parked down the street.
The next morning, Victor sends the teenagers off to school and then invites Sam to join him at breakfast. They talk about children and Sam admits that he doesn't have any. Victor shows him a photo of his wife and two children and explains that they were killed when a wendigo attacked them on a camping trip. He insists that the three teenagers can have a better life.
Dean goes to the hospital to talk to Connie, who explains that the man who abducted her was Jimmy Day. Jimmy had served in Afghanistan and came back a few weeks ago as a hero. Connie describes that the man who abducted her wore a hoodie and drove a blue van. When she woke up, however, it was Jimmy who was in the room, saying that he was sorry.
As Sam looks through the house at photos of Victor and his "family," Victor comes back from school with the three teenagers and tells Sam that he's found the vampire that killed Krissy's father. He has security footage of a gas station of the suspected vampire, which matches witness descriptions of one of the vampire killers. As Sam studies the photo, he hesitantly asks Victor if he's sure it's a surveillance photo. Krissy is eager to track the vampire down and get revenge, while Dean calls Sam. They compare notes privately and Dean explains that Jimmy had to have become a vampire in the month since he returned from Afghanistan... but Josephine's family was killed several months ago. Sam tells Dean that the surveillance photo doesn't have a time stamp on it but isn't sure if Victor is lying or just mistaken.
Dean hangs up and heads back to the hotel to follow up, while Sam looks out the window and sees the blue van parked out on the street. The three teens have already left and Sam tells Victor about the van, and Victor is eager to go after the driver.
At the hotel, Dean bribes the clerk to tell him that the man who rented 15 wore a hoodie. The clerk also tells Dean that the man took a flyer for a nearby wilderness lodge that is closed for the season.
When Sam and Victor approach the van, they discover that it's empty. There's a park nearby and the two hunters figure the man went there.
Dean tries to the lodge and, searching the place, finds a woman tied to a bed. She begs Dean to make it go away and flinches when he turns on the lights. She explains that a man in a blue van abducted her and brought her to the lodge. As Dean takes in her story, Krissy, Aidan, and Josephine burst into the room, their guns ready.
Sam and Victor close on in the man in the hoodie. However, as Sam prepares to attack him, Victor knocks him out from behind. The man smiles in satisfaction, baring his fangs.
Krissy wants to know why Dean is there with the vampire who killed his father, and he puts away his knife as he explains that the woman has only been a vampire for a couple of days. Aidan wonders about the vampire that Josephine killed and Dean reminds them that vampires attack, they don't beg for their lives like Jimmy did. Aidan doesn't believe it and prepares to shoot Dean, who easily disarms him. Krissy insists that the female vampire deserves to die even if she didn't kill anyone, but Dean insists that they can cure her if they can find her maker. He asks the teenagers if they want to kill an innocent girl, and assures Krissy that they will get the vampire who killed her father.
Sam wakes up at the house and finds himself tied to a chair. Victor and the vampire, Seth, are waiting for him and Victor tears up the place. As he does, he tells Sam that they'll make it look like the vampire killed Sam after a brief fight, strengthening their determination to become hunters. Ranting, Victor insists that they're fighting a war and losing since the Leviathan war. Now he plans to do whatever it takes to understand, and make sure that no more children die.
Dean comes in with the three teenagers and Seth bares his fangs. Victor tries to turn his "family" against the Winchesters, but Aidan asks if he know Seth. Before the hunter can come up with an explanation, Dean lays it out for them: Victor convinced Seth to kill the three families so he could "adopt" them and turn them into hunters. Victor admits that it's true and Seth speaks up, boasting that he killed their families and made his victims scream. As the teenagers stare at him in shock, Victor insists that he did the right thing by preparing them for the future. He asks them to come with him, but they all refuse.
Impatient, Seth grabs Aidan and holds him as a shield, and Victor says that he's leaving with the vampire. Josephine attacks Victor, who easily knocks her aside. However, Krissy draws her dart gun and shoots Seth in the eye with a dart of dead man's blood. She then prepares to shoot Victor, but Dean reminds her that hunters don't kill people. Sam warns the girl that it will end badly no matter what she does, and Krissy fires repeatedly. Each time the hammer clicks on an empty chamber. Krissy drops the bullets on the floor and tells her friends that they'll leave Victor to live alone without any family and friends. Desperate, Victor grabs his gun and kills himself.
The next day, the teenagers manage to cure the female vampire using its maker's blood. As he prepares to leave, Dean tells Krissy that he's proud of her, and Sam give her her father's necklace. As Sam goes out to the car, Dean offers to take Krissy to Cincinnati with her aunt. However, Krissy refuses, explaining that she wants to stay with her friends and make sure what they learned doesn't go to waste. Dean jokingly figures that she's staying because she's in love with Aidan, but Krissy denies it. She says that Josephine will be 18 in a few months and until then they can fake that they have an adult. When Dean wonders if they'll go monster-hunting, Krissy says that they won't go looking, but they will take of any that come into town. When she wonders if Dean is okay with the plan, he tells her that she's old enough to make her decisions, but promises to have Garth check in on them from time to time. Krissy gives her friend a kiss on the check and says goodbye. As she walks off, Aidan comments sarcastically on Dean and wonders if he plans to give him a warning about messing with Krissy. Dean assures him that Krissy will be the one to worry about if Aidan does anything out of line.
As Dean goes out to the car with Sam, Sam figures that things went about as well as could be expected. Dean figures that they have to find the tablets and shut the gates of Hell so that they can remove the biggest threat to the teens now that they're hunters... and give them a chance at a normal life.
