Season 2 Episode 16

Aired Thursday 8:00 PM Mar 15, 2007 on The CW

  • Trivia

    • Trivia: The conversation Sam has with Molly at the end is very similar to the conversation the Reaper and Dean had toward the end of "In My Time of Dying."

    • The brothers don't salt and burn Marion Greeley's bones. There's no indication she's a ghost, but given she killed herself because she lost her husband, she certainly seems obsessed. There's no reason not to dispose of her remains in the proper manner, and yet they don't.

    • When Greeley is scratching Molly's stomach, there is a lot of skin showing, but when we get a full view of her hanging, there is only a sliver of skin showing.

    • When confronting Greeley's spirit, Dean yells at Sam to hurry up. Given Sam is secretly salting and burning Greeley's bones, Dean yelling at him isn't the best idea. Fortunately, Greeley doesn't bother to investigate what Sam is doing.

    • There is no way Sam would've been able to find the grave, unbury the body, salt and burn the bones in the same while Dean just shot the ghost and was smashed to the wall, with the ghost trying to kill him. He didn't have the time, it all happened too quickly.

  • Quotes

    • Molly: Isn't this argument a little archaic? Men can ask directions these days.
David: Oh, no we can't. It's against our genetic code. Look, I know exactly where we are.
      Molly: We're nowhere.
David: Highway 99, all right? It cuts right through….. (trails off as they pass a sign marking Highway 41)

    • Dean: Did he look like he... lost a fight with a lawnmower?
Molly: How did you know that?
      Dean: Lucky guess.

    • Molly: Right before, we were having the dumbest fight. It's the only time we really argue, when we're stuck in the car.
Sam: Yeah, I know how that goes. (Dean glares at him)

    • Sam: It wasn't a coincidence that we found you, all right?
Molly: What are you talking about?
Dean: We weren't just cruisin' for chicks when we ran into you, sister, we were already out here. Hunting.
      Molly: Hunting for what?
      Dean: (pauses) Ghosts.
Sam: Don't sugarcoat it for her.

    • Dean: Y'know, just once I'd like to round the corner and see a nice house.

    • Molly: So this is really what you guys do. You're like Ghostbusters.
Dean: Yeah. Minus the jumpsuits. Look, lady, this is a fascinating conversation and all but this highway's only haunted once a year. We got till sunup to wrap this thing up. So what do you say we move it along, okay? Great.

    • Molly: I don't understand how a guy like this can turn into that monster.
Sam: Well, spirits like Greeley are like wounded animals. Lost... in so much pain they lash out.
Molly: Why? Why are they here?
Sam: Well, there's some part of them that... that's keeping them here. Like their remains, or unfinished business.
      Molly: Unfinished business?
Sam: Yeah. Could be revenge. Could be love, or hate. Whatever it is, they just hold on too tight. Can't let go. So they're trapped. Caught in the same loops. Replaying the same tragedies over and over.
Molly: You sound almost sorry for them.
Sam: Well, they weren't evil people, you know? A lot of them were good, just something happened to them. Something they couldn't control.
Dean: Sammy's always gettin' a little J. Love Hewitt when it comes to this. Me, I don't like 'em. And I'm sure as hell ain't makin' apologies for 'em.

    • Dean: Smells like old lady in here. (runs into a corpse of a hung old lady) That would explain why.

    • Molly: What happens if you burn their bones?
Sam: Umm, well my dad used to say that was like death for ghosts, you know? But the truth is, we still don't know. Not for sure. Guess that's why we all hold onto life so hard. Because of death. All just scared of the unknown.

    • Sam: It's an old country custom, Dean. Planting a tree as a grave-marker.
Dean: You're like a walking encyclopedia of weirdness.
      Sam: Yeah, I know.

    • Molly: I know about your wife, hurting me won't bring her back.
Greeley: My wife is gone. All I got left's hurting you.
Molly: Please, just let me go.
Greeley: Go? You're not gonna leave. You're never gonna leave.
      (Molly screams)

    • Molly: Thank God!
      Dean: Call me Dean.

    • Sam: Now you can walk in there, and we're not gonna stop you.
Dean: Yeah, but you are gonna freak him right out.. for life.

    • Dean: I guess she wasn't so bad. For a ghost. You think she's really going to a better place?
      Sam: I hope so.
Dean: I guess we'll never know. Not until we take the plunge ourselves, huh?
Sam: It doesn't really matter, Dean. Hope's kind of the whole point.
Dean: Well all right, Haley Joel.
