Sam's friend, Zach, is accused of murder. Sam offers to help out by checking up on his sister, Rebecca. Rebecca claims her brother could not have committed the murder because he was with her at the time of the murder. But all the physical evidence points to Zach being at the scene of the crime. Could Zach have been at two places at the same time?moreless
Some impressively gory moments aside, there's not much to this episode. It attempts to shake up the status quo between the Winchesters, as with every episode, but this hour primarily focuses on catching the shape shifter, which leads to some rather lazy plot-twists. It's the first episode to feature the boys knee deep in police poop, but very little is made of it. There's a great little fight sequence between Sam and Shifter-Dean and it's good to see a fight that's not overly choreographed and with both fighters coming out of it battered and bruised. A step up from the last episode, if only in terms of technical wizardry, with shifter-Dean's transformation being especially memorable and nasty. I also enjoyed the musical segments intertwined with some rather visceral post-torture scenes.moreless

Could Zach have been at two places at the same time? Best episode since the pilot. The fact that the brothers were able to interact in this episode like they normally wouldn't be able to was really good in this episode I thought. We get to see a little more about the life Sam left behind - but the episode itself doesn't answer to much. Once again we see the female character that dominates the episode that I have been talking about for my last two reviews. I loved how the episode began in media res - I love it when episodes start with something and then work its way bak to it. Not as good as the pilot - but certainly the best one since then.moreless
Sam and Dean rush to the aid of Sam's college friend, Zach, who is accused of a murder he swears he didn't commit. Zach's sister, Rebecca is his alibi, but Dean is dubious when she presents a videotape of Zach entering the victim's home before the murder.moreless
They go to the scene of the crime and note that the neighbor's dog went crazy right around when Zach's girlfriend was killed (Jeeze, Kripke, sexist much?) which is a telltale sign of paranormal activity. When another murder occurs, the brothers learn that a shapeshifter is adopting the likenesses of others. Then the bros find the lair(I love that lair and the puke-inducing pile of skin everywhere, hehe)the hunters become the hunted when the shifter drops on them. Basically, the shifter becomes Shapeshifter-Dean complete with downloaded memories and visits Rebecca with hopes of igniting sparks that passed between her and Dean. But shapeshifter-Dean's own personality colors the interpretation of what Dean would say in a romantic situation and is rejected by Rebecca. The brothers fight each other (God, how I love, love this fight scenes!!!). I love how Dean can't go to the police now since his name is recorded. I absolutely love when Dean says "It's a shame. How many times am I gonna get to see my own funeral?". Love Dean 4ever.moreless
I see a pattern here. All the episodes that have involved humans transcending the supernatural while actually staying human are clearly inferior to the episodes that don't. This episode at first sounds like it should have been good; a lot of material to work with with the shapeshifter, and it instantly grabbed your attention with the eye popping introduction. And then over the course of the episode it just started declining more and more. By the tail end it just got confusing with the shapeshifter all over the place impersonating everyone, and then at one point it just straight up lost you. The ending was a bit dissatisfying as well; it would have been a bit nicer if the episode went more indepth with the actual shapeshifter and learn more about him like we have about the antagonists of episodes past.moreless
in this ep sam starts to read his messages from his friends from college and dean asks why he does that becasue he has to lie to them so they really no nothing about him. it starts off by sam going to see a old friend that had her brother go out and kill his girlfriend. but sam does not belive that and askes to go see the crime scene he lies and says that his brother is a cop and they go and see the tape and stuff but she finds out sam lied and and she asks him to leave and there is another murder of a man that goes in and sees his girl friend who is tied to the chair and she sees double but one gets killed and the fake gets away. thing is dean sam go invesgate and find out is a skin walker who is taking forms of people form there clothing and then shed it off. dean gets captured by the thing and so does sam and the thing becomes dean and goes after sam friend the shapeshiffter gets shot in the head by the police and sam and dean get away. this was a good epmoreless
In the beginning of the episode, when Sam is reading the email from Rebbecca, when Sam says "from my friends at Stanford," you can see a black microphone with a red circle around it fastened inside the door.
Edit
Trivia: Sam's email address is lawboy@stanford.edu.

The way the Winchesters parked looks like they came in driving towards the intersection. But that is impossible given the fact that it is a dead end. Even if they did reverse in, they still would have seen the crime scene coming in. Plus, the police are still putting up the crime scene wrap several hours in.

Creator Eric Kripke was particularly proud of "Skins," because it was the first time they started to dig deeper into the characters. Co-executive producer John Shiban seconds the feeling: "The episode really worked as a thriller, a great supernatural mystery."
