  • This episode was excellent!!!

I loved this episode!!! It was great to finally get some answers on the creators of these creatures. They now know what company was responsible for it: Lorentec. Also Miles has got some cool new powers, almost superhero like powers. I guess whatever Nimrod did to heal him is causing him to start to mutate. But his new powers whil freaky are really cool. That was a cool part where he just took control of all of those creatures and led them back into the ocean saving the day and the town. He also finally got his powers uniterupted kiss with Caitlin. Finally! I thought that that was never going to happenmoreless
  • Great Episode!

The tension's been building in the last few episodes. There's just a few episodes left. Rich and Laura goes to an abandoned lab. We learn more about the mystery in this episode. This is a really cool show. Things are happening in this episode. I'm having such a blast watching this episode, I'm so fixated on the story. the writers did a really good job. the characters are starting to deal with the new realities around them. This episode is awesome, I saw it thrice already just to prepare to what's going to happen next week. I love this show.moreless
  • Dumb stuff about the show in general

While, for the most part, I liked this show, I was continually flabbergasted about how these people are able to commute across the country in less time than real people can commute to work from home in many cities of the USA. This irritated me sometimes to distraction, particularly in (I believe) this episode, as as it defies logic that Rich could leave Laura in (apparently) California, return to his home back East to have a fight with his wife, then get back to pick up Laura at the assigned time/spot 24 hours after dropping her off. Oh, and then, the next day, driving to the East Coast, meeting up with Miles & Nim! I understand that science fiction and fantasy requires SOME suspension of disbelief, but come ON, Pate brothers.

And, if I may, a word about the season finale: water seeks its own level; it will NOT stand in the middle of town above roof level, even having been brought there in the form of a tsunami.moreless
  • Now that is what I call Quality T.V...

This episode has all the elements of a good Sci-fi series: A female talking monkey, evil but yet very charming, Never Aging, Agents, rebellious little Sea Monsters and of course: stupid Americans with guns.

I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed it. I Hope to see more episodes of this sort in the near future.
  • Overall an pretty good ep

This episode really did quite a bit to advance the story - for which I'm glad. I did roll my eyes a bit when it turned out that some pharmaceutical company is behind everything.

Seems to me that "evil corporations" have been done to death in TV & movies over the past 3 decades or so - especially drug companies - don't you know they don't really give a hoot about making people well or helping them live easier lives? However, that doesn't ruing the series for me or anything - just a mild annoyance.

Anyway, the Miles angle is pretty cool & seeing that Asian guy in that old film was sweet!!

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Whenever you are testing an electrical surface with your hand, you should use the back of your hand, as the muscles in your hand would contract if electrified, which would clasp your hand on the surface (fence here!), so any idiot testing an electric fence would use the back of his hand.

    • The "gun" Miles uses to tag Nimrod is actually a paintball gun, with its air supply and barrel removed. The logo of the company (a silver VL) is clearly visible on the side. The gun is the "Brawler" by ViewLoader. Similar to the "Spyder", a wildly popular gun due to its low price and the huge upgrade possibilities. You can clearly see the Feed neck on the top and the silver pin that snaps back when he fires is the pin for the bolt, which fired the paintball.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Caitlin: I just came in for work guess what I found out you did?
      Miles: There's a reason.
Caitlin: I know. I know there's some thing strange going on with you, that you don't even want to understand.
Miles: I do understand. I'm changing.
Caitlin: You want to be normal?
Miles: Is that so weird? Besides, Caitlin, these things are killing people.
Caitlin: Nim isn't. Everyone I know is worried that there's nothing special about them. That they'll never find what their life is about. But you... You find something that no one on this planet has ever seen before, ever, something you claimed you loved, and you're destroying it.

    • (Rich hands Laura a gun)
Rich: It's a hair trigger, be a careful.
Laura: What are you gonna use?
Rich: I'll use my mind. That's my best weapon.
      (Rich winks)
Laura: Like I said, what are you gonna use?
      Rich: Ha ha, funny.
      (Rich takes the gun back)
      Rich: Die, then.

    • The inside of the Braddock Archival Library scene was filmed on the 2nd floor of the UNC-Wilmigton library (since most of the series was filmed in Wilmington, NC). The entrance to the Special Collections & Archives room is clearly visible towards the end of this scene.

    • First episode to begin with animated opening titles that feature clips from past episodes within the letters of the show's name. In previous episodes, the word "Surface" would simply appear briefly after the opening scene.

    • Mr. Big (Martha Plimpton)'s name is revealed as Dr. Samantha Morris

    • When the stars threw down their spears:

As she did in Episode 12, "Mr Big" Martha Plimpton quotes William Blake's poem The Tyger (also known as Tyger, Tyger). At the close of her meeting with Dr. Daugherty, she recites the following lines (stanzas 4 and 5):

What the hammer? What the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
      Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

Blake's poem is itself considered an allusion to both the beauty and danger of the natural world.
