Ever since Everybody Loves Raymond ended its near decade run in May of 2005 people have been clamoring for that next great family comedy to come along. After watching the pilot episode of Surviving Suburbia I can safely say that....the wait continues.

The show is clearly "influenced" by the ended CBS series. Bob Saget and Ray Romano may differ in material when on the stand-up circuit, but their characters of Steve Patterson and Ray Barone are ever so similar. Weak, cowardly men with low self-esteem, and the driving force of the show. Anne Patterson, played by Cynthia Stevenson, is like Debra Barone on steroids, and is not exactly the kind of female role model a family show needs.

But the show is missing Frank, Marie and Robert who were just as vital to Everybody Loves Raymond as its stars. The supporting cast of Surviving Suburbia is nothing short of awful, with actors that do not even deserve to be on the set as extras. Surviving Suburbia is the little show that could; originally planned for The CW's Sunday night lineup, and now in TV's best slot right behind Dancing With the Stars. Don't kid yourself, whatever ratings this show gets are because of its lead-in, not because of its quality.

I will admit to laughing a few times, as even a phoned-in Bob Saget performance can do that, but this show needs work.moreless
