  • Ep.2 : The men get a win, and the women get rid of the swing vote

    8.0
I remember in Survivor: Amazon, there was an episode where a player found herself in the middle of two groups, and while he felt she was in a position of power, Rob Cesternino turned the tables and voted out the swing vote. In a way, that's what happens in this episode, when Dolly, the player in the middle of the young and old group, gets ousted.

After the women lose their first immunity challenge thanks to a massive screw-up by Scout, we get to see them scramble for the first time this season. I appreciated how the episode started off with it young vs. old, but thanks to some verbal maneuvering from Ami, some of the young girls jump ship from their alliance and take out Dolly.

It's almost hilarious how different the strategy in these early seasons compared to the newer seasons. For instance, when John P. asks Trevor if his name came up in the previous tribal council, Trevor comes right out and says, Now, if this were a later season, you would obviously bite your tongue and say nothing, or just lie. However, Trevor just admits it, and in turn, sets John P. up to maneuver and get numbers on his side. It's just a different era of Survivor, and as a result, we get less strategy, and more people acting like they would in normal circumstances. However, voting Dolly out was a very new-school type of move.

On the Yasur tribe, Twila continues to stand out as the most unique personality. While Scout is very similar, I feel like Twila has enough of that prickly wit that I love out of my Survivor personalities. Ami also seems to know the game pretty well; as of right now, she's sitting back and just letting things settle and getting the lay of the land, but you can tell she's itching to start making moves.

Meanwhile, on the men's tribe, Rory is prickly, but not in an enjoyable way. Sarge sums it up best when he says Rory is "wrong as Nobody needs that type of negative energy around. We'll have to wait until next week to see how the tribe deals with him.

  • Very good episode.

    10
This was an enjoyable instalment of Survivor. In many of the later seasons, we seldom get 2 challenges in Episode 2, and so I was really happy to have that today in this one. The girls blitzed Reward - and that challenge was tailored for a female victory, as they have smaller bodies than most of the male tribe and can quite easily squeeze past none another.

The Immunity was a different story. The men finally win and they also get fire which was essential for them.

The dynamics of the faemale tribe are interesting. I loved Dolly - probably my favourite so far - and I was really upset to see her go home with this vote. WOuld have liked to see her stay in it, but it was a clever play by Eliza and the others to take her out , to be honest.

Looking forward to more. The episode was very much unexpected and interesting!moreless
  • A lesson learned.

    6.1
A great lesson is learned in this second episode of Surivor 9. And that lesson is--do not try to play both sides of your tribe or you WILL get caught. Case in point is Dolly--she tried to align herself with both the younger girls and the "older" women. I use the term "older" in quotes and very loosely, because I don't consider Amy to be old. The only true older women are Scout and, maybe, Twila. When the older women got wind of this, Dolly got the boot. It was a close vote between her and Twila, but Dolly had to go.

The men finally proved their "dominance" by winning the immunity challenge. How long will the "dominance" last? Only time will tell.moreless
  • Dolly voted out!

    5.5
Again I will admit this is right up there with

Thailand as one of my least favorite in the series

Not just a boring storyline but also unlikable people IMO

Just really didn't get into it though I watched most of it

Dolly gets voted out. Though that sheep gals were very tough! LOL! Oh well!
