He's not the greatest survivor ever. If it hadn't been for the piles of hidden immunity idols that he found, he wouldn't have made it to merge in his previous two seasons. Put him in a season where he has to rely on his social game (NO HIDDEN IMMUNITY IDOLS), and I think that he'd be quickly forgotten.

Or like this one, in which somebody managed to snag the immunity idol before he did.

As for this argument that somehow his attracting attention to the show makes him the greatest - tish tosh. Simply attracting viewers doesn't make one the greatest. Even if one were to lend any claim to that assertion, which I don't, there are plenty of other Survivors who have brought attention to the show. And I know of people who actually stopped watching for a while because they couldn't deal with watching anymore of Russell.

As Russell fan, no he isn`t anywhere close to being greatest player ever. However i will say that he is definitely one of the top 5 greatest villains ever.

I'll agree with you there. He was one of the top villains and he definitely made for interesting viewing at times. Really, I just think that eventually a lot of people got Russell-fatigue as the mythos around him grew and grew and his legacy became exaggerated, plus they kept spending so much time on him. If it weren't for all of that, he might very well still have more fans.

Russell only lasted until the end of the game on the last all-stars because no one had seen his first season (it hadn't aired when all-stars started taping). He would have been among one of the first out as with this season. I agree that he is one of the most memorable villains, but for me, not a favourite player.
