    • Aras: Truth be told, I think it's great that the alliance has broken up, because it's a paper tiger. There's no power to this alliance anymore. Unless [Shane's] somehow able to find a way to apologize to the girls and say, 'Look, I really didn't mean it,' I feel like that guy is going to go home.

    • Nick: (About Dan) I never thought I'd even meet an astronaut, never mind live with one. I mean, the guy's looked at the earth from space.

    • Sally: These guys think that they know how the game works, but I'd be very surprised if the all-man's club ended up lasting as long as they think it would.

    • Cirie: The reward kind of brought us together, but that's the thing. It's kind of a double-edged sword for me. In a way, I almost wanted to lose, because I really felt like Shane was going.

    • Sally: It's exciting and frustrating to think that there's an Immunity Idol out here somewhere, but it's overwhelming. You really don't know where to start.

    • Sally: (About being "banished" to Exile Island) This is a gift to be here, so I'm thrilled. It's like a little vacation: some girl time; get away from all those boys for awhile.

  • Notes

    • This episode was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming (Large Team Entries - Primarily Multi-Camera Productions)

    • This is only the second episode in history in which a contestant (Shane) has been allowed to smoke. In Survivor: Borneo: episode "Crack In The Alliance," Gervase received cigars and shared with other castaways after receiving news of the birth of his son

    • Dan is voted off in this episode, making him the sixth player (but only second male) to be eliminated from this season.

  • Allusions

    • Terry comments that former astronaut Dan, "has the right stuff." The Right Stuff was a novel, later turned into a TV mini-series, about the early years of NASA.
