Episode Summary

By Day 4, the separation from food really starts to take a toll on some of the contestants. No food is offered at the Reward Challenge, where Rodger faces his fears and jumps off a cliff only to have his tribe lose, but everyone is bound to get some nutrition with the Immunity Challenge. Unfortunately, the food supplied - cow brains, beetles, and worms - isn't what the castaways are hoping for, and Tina can't stomach it, giving Kucha, led by vegetarian Kimmi, Immunity from Tribal Council, which is exactly where Ogakor is forced to go. At the vote, Jerri's suspicions that Kel has been eating a secret stash of beef jerky seems to be enough to get him kicked off, as Kel becomes the second Outback competitor to get his torch snuffed.moreless

  • A little surprising, actually.

To be honest, I was really surprised with the outcome of this vote, because I think Kel was one of the strongest players in terms of challenges, and I thought he'd easily make the merge. It hasn't worked out that way, an d I was surprised that Ogakor decided to vote him off first.

The challenges were great! Great use of the beautiful cliffs for the Reawrd, and the Immunity was just disgusting, yet also interesting!

A surprise outcome at Tribal makes this a great episode for me!moreless
  • Jerri's a B***h

Accusing Kel of smuggling beef jerky? I think that's a lie. Jerri is very manipulative.
  • A great episode with Kel, already an outsider, accused of smuggling beef jerky and is voted out.

The episode was a great episode, probably one of the greatest pre-merge in this season. The episode started withthe tribes tired and hungry. When treemail comes telling that next immunity challenge the contestants will have to jump off a cliff which makes Rodger nervous. Despite this, Rodger came through, but Kucha still lost the reward which were blankets. After the win, at Ogakor Jerri accuses Kel of smuggling beef jerky. The tribe looked in his bag, but found nothing. At the immunity challenge, the tribes had to eat gross bugs and the tie breaker was the vegetarian Kimmi, and Tina and Kimmi won for Kucha. At tribal council, the tribe voted out Kel unanimously out of the tribe. This was a great episode with people struggling with the environment along with each other especially Kel and Jerri.moreless
  • Kel got a raw deal!

IMHO, Kel got a raw deal and got voted off

Not just because of him being a loner and being shy and quiet

But also because of him being in the military

Sadly though that Jerri accused him of smuggling beef jerky

As the whole entire tribe turned on him

Had they kept him, they would had dominated all of the challenges

But in the end, sometimes it is numbers that count

And Kel was sadly hung out to dry!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Maralyn sits out of the "Butch Cassidy" reward challenge since Ogakor has one more person in their tribe than Kucha. In the DVD Commentaries, Tina reveals that the Survivor producers allowed Maralyn to jump off of the cliff into the water once the challenge was done when she asked them.

    • An immunity challenge involves eating what is described as native aboriginal food. Two items on the menu are cow brains and tripe (cow stomach), but there were no cows in Australia until the English arrived.

  • QUOTES (15)

  • NOTES (4)

    • Beginning with this episode, the series now aired Thursday at 8:00 p.m.

    • Ogakor wins the Reward Challenge, called the "Butch Cassidy" challenge. The game involves jumping off of an extremely high cliff into the water below, then swimming with a crate through rapids until you get to a beach, where the players must then untie their crate to reveal what is inside for them to win: nice, warm blankets.

    • Kucha, however, wins the Immunity Challenge, involving a "Wheel of Food." The wheel includes foods like cow brains, beetles, and worms, as well as some more pleasant kind, like candy bars and apples. The object of the game is to swallow whatever you spin without having it come back up. In the end, a tense tie breaker, Kimmi eats a long worm faster than Tina, sending Ogakor to tribal council.

    • Kel is voted off of the island in this episode.

    • While casting her vote for Kel, Maralyn says, "Kel, if you were lying in the Susu Desert, dying of thirst, every one of us would give you a drink of water. Good luck to ya." This is a spin on Susan Hawk's final tribal council speech to Kelly during the first season of Survivor, where Sue said, "Kelly, if you were lying in the desert, dying of thirst, I would not give you a drink of water." While usually producers do not allow castaways to make references to past seasons, Maralyn did not say where she got the speech, and, poking fun at their own show, the producers decided to keep the reference in.
