Episode Summary

With a Panamanian military escort, three motorboats shot across the sea, each hold a tribe of past Survivor castaways. The eighteen people are divided into three tribes. Wearing yellow, the Saboga Tribe consists of Jenna Lewis (Borneo), Rudy Boesch (Borneo), Jerri Manthey (Australian Outback), Tina Wesson (Australian Outback), Ethan Zohn (Africa) and Rupert Boneham (Pearl Islands). Wearing green, the Mogo Mogo Tribe consists of Richard Hatch (Borneo), Colby Donaldson (Australian Outback), Lex van den Berghe (Africa), Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien (Marquesas), Shii Ann Huang (Thailand) and Jenna Morasca (Amazon). Wearing red, the Chapera Tribe consists of Susan Hawk (Borneo), Alicia Calaway (Australian Outback), Amber Brkich (Australian Outback), "Big" Tom Buchanan (Africa), "Boston" Rob Mariano (Marquesas) and Rob Cesternino (Amazon). The All-Stars are given nothing but their water canteens, and are not told the names of the other castaways or how many tribes there were. Armed with no information, no fire and no help, these eighteen All-Stars would be challenged once again to outwit, outplay and outlast all the others, to become the ultimate survivor.moreless

  • Saying Hello to Old Friends!!

Seeing the All-Stars was like saying hello to old friends again.

People you thought that you would never ever see again, come back and they participate in All-Stars!

There was of course the people that you love to hate like Richard, Rob C, Rob M, and Amber.

And people that you love to well, love, like Ethan, Rupert, & Colby.

You knew when Tina got voted out, the people that had made it farther in the game, or had won, would be targed and leave the game early, one-by-one!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • Shi-Ann Huang is the first contestant ever to play the game a second time despite not making the merge or the jury in a previous appearance.

    • It's interesting to note that there is a bit of foreshadowing during the episode's introduction. Rob M. and Amber sit next to each other on the boat and high five each other after making it to their beach.

    • Of all the All-Stars, Tina ends up faring the worst in two appearances combined, going from winning in the Outback to being voted off first. She finished 39 days less than her previous finish.

    • The cast includes four contestants from Survivor: Borneo, five from Survivor: Australia, three from Survivor: Africa, two from Survivor: Marquesas, one from Survivor: Thailand, two from Survivor: The Amazon and one from Survivor: Pearl Islands. Four winners, one second-place finalist, and four third-place contestants are included in the cast.

    • This episode originally aired after the Superbowl.

    • For the first time ever, the tribe sent to tribal council, Saboga, is not allowed to bring their torches back to camp. Instead, all torches are left at Tribal Council until the castaways get fire on their own.

    • This is the first time that Survivor returns to a country where a previous season was also filmed, Panama. Other firsts include the extra two castaways, bringing the contestant total up to 18 from past Survivor seasons, and the fact that there are now three tribes instead of two.

It is also the first time previous seasons are referenced by the castaways. Previously, producers discouraged such comments on-site to contestants. Even if comments were made, editors deleted the references.

    • The Immunity Challenge in this episode, Quest for Fire, was the same Immunity Challenge done in the very first episode of Survivor.

    • None of the contestants knew who were on the other tribes until they met for the Immunity Challenge. Also, the tribes were only supplied with a pot and machete. Finally, before the season began, CBS contemplated increasing the final prize money to $2 million, which was eventually vetoed in favor of a higher starting prize for the first person eliminated.

  • QUOTES (4)

  • NOTES (5)

    • Elizabeth Hasselbeck ("Survivor: The Australian Outback") was invited to participate in this season but she turned down the offer in order to focus her time on co-hosting "The View". According to Mark Burnett, Colleen Haskell ("Survivor: Born") declined as "she didn't want to go through the experience." Heidi Strobel ("Survivor: The Amazon") also turned down the offer to join the season.

    • This episode was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming (Single or Multi-Camera).

    • The complete eigth season of the show, "Survivor: All-Stars" was released on DVD on September 14, 2004.

    • The three tribes this season are Saboga, who always wears yellow, Mogo Mogo, who always wears green, and Chapera, who always wears red.

    • Tina was the first all-star to be voted off. She has never been voted off before and is the first winner to get the boot. Also, Tina becomes the 100th contestant to be officially voted off Survivor.
