Trial By Fire
AIRED:
Things seem to be looking up for Kucha - their winning streak looks to be restarting, as they steal the Reward Challenge from right under Ogakor's noses, and they create a new kind of food: Kucha corn, made by heating up chicken feed. But the same fire that cheers the Kucha tribe up turns suddenly volatile when tribe "leader" Michael passes out from smoke inhalation, and falls face-first into the camp fire. Mike is flown away to a hospital via helicopter, leaving his tribemates behind. Meanwhile, the Ogakor tribe, given the bittersweet gift of Mike's elimination, worry about what has happened when they receive treemail announcing the accident. Next week the tribes will merge on equal ground - who will come out prosperous?moreless

  • Really moving.

This was definitely a very hard one to watch because it was very sad what happened. Michael was such a strong contender and probably deserved to go deep into the game and definitely deserved to make the merge at the very least.

The Reward Challenge was enjoyable. Poor Ogakor was literally walking around aimlessly when Amber was centimetres from the platform but just couldn't find it!

I think I'm going to have nightmares about those burns. It was a tough one to stomach, and it was really quite moving to hear Elisabeth's confessional about how it all went down at the helicopter.

I'm intrigued to see what will happen next at the merge, but definitely saddened at the way this went down. :(moreless
  • Mike fell fell in the fire and had to be evacuated.

The episode began with Jerri and Amber talking about chocolate which annoyed Colby because she was talking about him. The reward challenge was won by Kucha in which one person had to guide the team while blindfolded to get water in a large bucket for chips and mountain dew. The loss made Ogakor discouraged because Kucha was beating them most of the time in the challenges and one more loss meant that they would merge down 6-4. But at Kucha Mike fell in the fire and had to be put in a helicopter and evacuated out of the game which was really sad. This was a really sad episode because Mike fell in the fire and had to leave the game.moreless

I feel bad that the guy... you know... Mike... was sent home from a freakin fire! Why the ____- hell would ______ people do crap like that?!? Sheesh! I had to say that. Oh, speaking of, Mike, he was my favorite! Tied with Colb. Colby. -___-# Repeat serious.

    ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  • Very painful to watch!

This show with Mike Skupkin falling into the fire and passing out.

    Will be indeed a classic.

Had not Michael fallen into the fire, I think he would had made the merge.

Not just the merge but would crack in the top two.

But had he not fallen, Kutcha would stil be 6-4 going into the merge.

But after finding out Jeff V had one vote cast against him, became Kutcha's downfall and Okagor's gain.
  • This episode proved that this is a game and that you are not invincible out their.

This was one of my favorite episodes of all the survivor seasons. When Mike Skupin fell in the fire I almost cried! It was a terrible tradegy, but yet it was like it was meant to be. Then when everyone was helping him it felt really like they all got along great with eachother and unlike newer seasons they seemed to like eachother. It was really a turning point in the whole game. I truly believe if Mike didn't fall in the fire Kucha would have won and went all the way. It was really a dramatic thing that you didn't really think would happening in a survivor ever. The best part of the whole episode was the ending when they just ended with a prayer from the Kucha tribe. I thought it was very respectful to Mike. Even the Ogakor tribe felt sorry for who ever fell in the fire (because they didn't know yet) even though they knew that got lucky with that one.

Even though that was the main part of the episode it still had other great moments. Like the storm, Kucha corn, another Kucha win, but barely, Jerri getting drenched with water, and another Jerri and Keith fight(what a surprise).

Roger: We pray that you will be with him, and his family, and that you would bless them and give them strengh.moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • After the commercial break and before the segment of Michael's accident, a warning screen was shown to advise that viewer discretion was advised for the following scene. The warning screen, however, does not appear on the DVD set.

  • QUOTES (23)

    • Rodger: (ending prayer) Sovereign God, we give You thanks today for this beautiful Lord's day, and for all thy many wonderful blessings...we thank You, dear Lord, for this wonderful food that Mike caught for us today...and we pray that You would be with him as he undergoes surgery...we pray that You would be with the doctors...give them the knowledge and the experience and wisdom to fix his hand so that they once again would be returned to normal...we jusy pray that You would be with him, be with his family...and we just ask that You would bless them and give them strength...and we would ask, dear Lord, that You would bless the ones remaining in this group and ask that you would be with us and give us Your guidance and also Your strength and support...for it's in your Son's holy name we ask it. Amen.

    • Elisabeth: (About Michael's injury) It just hit us so hard. (Cries)

    • Colby: (in response to Jerri's words about liking chocolate) I may be a lot of things, but I ain't no Hershey Bar!

    • Jerri: I think Colby's afraid of me because this fantasy I have about chocolate and sex definitely involves him.

    • Jerri: Right now I can actually, in my wildest fantasy, picture pouring hot chocolate all over some hot dude's bod, and having sex while licking it off at the same time.

    • Jeff V.: (on merging w/Ogakor) We're going to eat 'em up and spit 'em out. That's the way Michael would want it to be.

    • Jeff V.: (on Ogakor) It's fun for us to hear how hungry they are and to win all their food. That's fun!

    • Rodger: We are going to win or lose this thing as a team, and we are going to stick together. Possibly, Mike's accident might have brought some of us to the realization that there are some things more important than the million dollars.

    • Colby: Keith and Jerri are like two alley cats scratching at each other, and it's ridiculous that the rest of us have to sit through all of this.

    • Tina: (About Keith and Jerri) I'm not their mother; it's not my position to get in the middle, but to be honest, one of the problems needs to go. Jerri makes me feel uncomfortable, and it's no fun living in that type of environment.

    • Tina: (Stopping Jerri's and Keith's bickering) Stop it! Both of you, or you're going to time out!

    • Keith: You don't make fried green tomatoes with cherry tomatoes. Another day on the vine and those would have been perfect.

    • Jeff: The whole thought of eating chicken feed just made me sick, but the more I eat it, the better it gets!

    • Jerri: Chocolate releases the same endorphins as sex and because none of us are having sex, that's probably why we keep craving the chocolate.

    • Elisabeth: This is crazy. When it rains here it means you are cold at night. It puts you at such an extreme disadvantage. It takes us a day to recover from it. There is nothing worse than being cold at night, but cold and wet...stick a fork in me.

    • Mike: I am looking at some brave and beautiful people that I have grown to love so much. You will be fine without me, you guys know what to do.

    • Jeff: (About Ogakor when hearing the news of Mike) Their feeling of "Oh my goodness," will be quickly replaced by relief.

    • Jerri: (About Kucha and the looming merge) If they pick us off one by one, I'm gonna cause a little ruckus. I'm gonna wreak a little havoc.

    • Alicia: (About eating the chicken feed) We're gonna find out somewhere down the road that something was in it, and we're gonna have eight nipples and be laying eggs or something. But until that happens, I'm gonna keep eating it, cause it's delicious.

    • Colby: I may be a lot of things, but I sure ain't no Hershey bar.

    • Jerri: I can picture pouring chocolate over some hot dude's bod and then having sex while licking it off.

    • Jerri: I just, at some point, need to get my hands on some chocolate. I fear I might go psycho. And I'm not kidding.

    • Jeff: (About his tribe's wins over Ogakor) We are a very cocky group – it's fun to beat them and make fun of it. To have them talk about how hungry they are and then have us go in there and win all their food – that's fun.
