Ozzy and Coach are, thus far, the only players to compete in a Redemption Island season (both in South Pacific), an Exile Island season (Ozzy in Cook Islands and Micronesia, Coach in Toncantins), and a season featuring hidden immunity idols (both as stated before).
For the second time in the history of the show, the Rites of Passage ritual was not shown during a season finale.
Coming in 2nd place, Coach improved on his previous finish on "Tocantins" (5th place) and "Heroes vs. Villains" (12th place). Ozzy improved on his previous finish on "Micronesia" (9th place), but not on "Cook Islands" (2nd place) after coming in 4th on "South Pacific".
With this episode, Ozzy has been voted out of his tribe a total of 4 separate times (second place in "Cook Islands", voted out for the first time in "Micronesia" and three times in "South Pacific"). Ozzy becomes the first contestant in the show's history to be voted out and have his torch snuffed out three times in one season
For the first time in the history of the show, during one season, two contestants (Jim and Brandon) win an individual immunity challenge in an episode and are voted out in that same episode.
Brandon becomes the fourth player ever to win an individual immunity challenge in an episode and be voted out in that same episode. Jim Rice from South Pacific, Jolanda Jones from Palau and Erik Reichenbach from Micronesia were the others.
The season finale of "Survivor: The Amazon" had a similiar title, "...And Then There Were Four".
The week this episode aired, it was announced that Jeff Probst married his girlfriend Lisa Ann Russell and became a step-father.
Jim becomes the third player ever to win an individual immunity challenge in an episode and be voted out in that same episode. Jolanda Jones from Palau and Erik Reichenbach from Micronesia were the others.
Ozzy becomes the third contestant in the show's history to be voted out and have his torch snuffed out twice in one season, joining Burton from Pearl Islands and Matt from Redemption Island.
With this episode, Ozzy has been voted out of his tribe a total of 3 separate times after coming in second place in "Cook Islands" and being voted out for the first time in "Micronesia" and twice in "South Pacific".
Ozzy becomes the only player ever to inhabit both Redemption Island and Exile Island (which he did in Micronesia) in his "Survivor" playing career.
When live tweeting during the east coast broadcast, Jeff Probst (@JeffProbst) revealed that the pig-eating immunity challenge "was originally an entire pig - face, snout, tail etc.," but that during the run through done by show staff ahead of time it was decided it needed to be toned down.
Jeff states that a new Survivor record is made. Jim and Brandon carry 240 pounds during a weight challenge.
Ozzy is the first contestant in "Survivor" history to return to play a third time without ever competing in either "Survivor: All-Stars" or "Heroes vs. Villiains"l
This season's cast features the return of "Coach" and Ozzy. This is both their third time on the show.
Brandon Hantz, who is the nephew of Russell Hantz, is the first ever blood relative of a previous contestant to play the game. Russell was a contestant on "Samoa", "Heroes vs. Villains", and "Redemption Island".
"Survivor: South Pacific" was filmed in Samoa, making it the third time the show has filmed there. This is the first time that a location has been used more than twice. The tribe names, Upolu and Savaii, are named after the two biggest islands in Samoa. It was reported that this season was originally going to be filmed in Tonga (an island nearby Samoa), but plans had to change after some production delays.
This season marks the sixth time that previous contestants have returned to play the game after "All-Stars", "Guatemala", "Fans vs. Favorites", "Heroes vs. Villains" and "Redemption Island".
This season was titled "Survivor: South Pacific". The season premiere episode was 1 hour and 30 minutes long.
