  • A group of people are invited to live for a period of time inside an underground bomb shelter, such as might (allegedly) provide protection in the event of a nuclear war. But this publicity stunt goes wrong.moreless

At the height of the cold war, governments were foever saying that it might be possible to survive a nuclear attack in a specially-designed underground shelter, always insisting that such places would be perfectly safe. In this play, a few people seal themselves inside such a shelter for a limited period as part of a propaganda initiative, and to test their reactions. But a stranger forces his way in - a man who has "visions" - and, at the end of the play, we realise that his prognostications of doom have come true and the protagonists are now trapped in their shelter, having already used up most of the supplies. This was a straightforward suspense play, but it packed a mighty wallop - the closing section was truly chilling.moreless
