  • The magic of Christmas strikes again

    9.5
Anne Francis gives a terrific performance as Doris Wainwright Bristol, an old friend of Lt. Harrelson's who is very rich, six-times divorced and jaded towards life. She checks into Lake Memorial Hospital for some cosmetic survey. Accompanying her are her personal assistant Margaret Doan and her security guard, retired New York city detective Joe DeLeon.

When Joe spots a known criminal visiting a patient, he becomes curious. He approaches Margaret with his concerns, but she talks him out of reporting them for fear of drawing the press into the situation and making public Doris' surgery. Joe takes it upon himself to investigate and when he discovers that two men are involved in an intricate plot to steal Doris' very expensive jewelry, he is murdered.

After the S.W.A.T. team, who was at the hospital volunteering to prepare the children's Christmas party, solves the case and rescues Doris and Margaret, Lt. Harrelson insists that Doris come to the children's party and help out. She agrees and in the process is healed of her cynicism towards life as she is able to embrace the children and the spirit of the holidays. A very touching story with a beautiful ending.moreless

    • Luca: Look at that, it's two days till Christmas; you think people would stop for a week.
Kay : Yeah, and quit hassling each other.
      Street: Ripping each other off.

    • Hilda: Health is wealth. You are what you eat.
McCabe: No wonder I'm having an identity crisis.

    • Street: Hey Dom, aren't you going a little heavy on the ribbon on that package?
Luca: Sure, why not? This one's for me.
Kay : Tomorrow night is Christmas Eve. When I was a kid, I was just hoping Santa Claus would show up with a present. I didn't care what it was!
Luca: You know, I remember on Christmas Eve, I would lay awake in bed, my eyes wouldn't close, you know. Crack of dawn would come and I would run down those stairs and tear open every present under the tree. I loved it.
McCabe: Hey, you guys remember hula hoops? One year, I got four of them.
Luca: You know, I never could understand that chimney number. I mean, have you ever seen Santa Claus with a speck of soot on him?
Street: Oh, my poor father, the man who has everything. Cologne and socks every year and he always acted surprised.

    • Hilda: Wow, that's a lot of ice!
Doris Wainwright Bristol: Yes, yes, I'm, I'm very attached to it. It was a second anniversary present from my third husband. Or was it a third anniversary present from my second husband?
Hilda: Well, it's the thought that counts.

    • Doris Wainwright Bristol: (serving punch at the children's Christmas party) You do you saved my life in more ways than one, don't you?
      Lt. Harrelson: How's that?
Doris : Well, I thought I had everything. And I also thought that everyone I met was after everything I had. But these kids, they don't even know I've got a cent. And, you know, I really care about them.
