Switchback

Show Summary

Switchback, is a Canadian television show that aired on the CBC Television network from 1981 to 1989 that is aimed at younger viewers. The show, broadcast live on Sunday mornings, focuses on music as well as interviews with local personalities. Another important part of Switchback is the phone-in contests it holds where viewers compete for various prizes. Although the show airs in different cities of Canada, they are not always the same version. For instance, the show started in Vancouver, but other versions originate from Regina, Ottawa, Calgary, Halifax, Winnipeg and Toronto. All the shows are locally produced and have different hosts, but follow the same essential format, share the same graphics and often air the same short films. One notable aspect of Switchback is that it was one of the first Canadian television shows to play music videos. Comedy also plays a large roles in all the versions. Comedic shorts films are a mainstay and actors perform live comedy skits.
